Introduction
• When designing a product for every day use, designer has to consider various
influential factors, among them aesthetics and ergonomics are very important.
• What is Ergonomics? - a field of study dealing with the comfort and safety of
the human body by adjusting tools, work stations and work processes to fit the
worker.
• Aesthetic : The term 'aesthetics' concerns our senses and our responses to an
object. If something is aesthetically pleasing to you, it is 'pleasurable' and you
like it.
• Designers are confronted with higher ergonomic demands
every day.
• Such condition led to development of various computer aided
techniques for evaluating human performances in a certain
workplace.
• This kind of software usually includes biomechanical data
about the potential user of the product, metabolic rate
prediction, reach assessment, and time prediction
• Among various influential factors that are important for the
success on the market the aesthetics is often the decisive one.
• This paper presents the present state-of-the-art in the field of
computer aided ergonomic design and some development
directions for computer aided aesthetics design tools
Ergonomic CAD software
• The possibility to combine the ergonomic data from multiple sources would
enable designer to use a single analysis tool to assess clearances, reach,
visual requirements, and postural comfort at the earliest stages of design
• It would make possible for designer to incorporate the important features
into designs
1. Three-dimensional Modelling of the working place and equipment,
• 2. Three-dimensional human form Modelling to represent various,
anthropometries and postures
3. Evaluative techniques to assess reach, vision, fit and posture, etc.
• Two different approaches to development of such software tools are
(i) Stand-alone ergonomic CAD software
(ii) Compatible ergonomic CAD software
Representatives of both groups of ergonomic CAD software

software
Stand-alone ergonomic CAD software
• The stand-alone ergonomic software is functional independently of the
other CAD software used in product development process.
• Thus, for many of these systems, the users must learn terminology,
command structures, and Modelling techniques that are different from
those in the commercially available CAD systems.
• Fortunately, many of these systems have the ability to import the
geometric models modelled in other CAD software, where the
complexity of the models can be taken in consideration.
Product development cycle using Stand-alone ergonomic software
Compatible ergonomic CAD software
• As distinguished from the stand-alone ergonomic CAD software, the
compatible ergonomic software has been designed to be accessed within a
CAD system.
• These systems take the advantage of the designers' familiarity with the
terminology, techniques, and command structures of commercially
available CAD programs.
• the application of a single geometric model for all phases of the design
process is also very important.
• Likewise using stand-alone ergonomic CAD software, the development
process starts with the concept design and usually ergonomically imperfect
concept, which represent the starting point for the compatible ergonomic
CAD software
Product development cycle using Compatible ergonomic CAD software
Computer aided aesthetic design
• There is the gap in the computer-aided process chain due to the aesthetic
design phase still represents a serious problem
• Designer have to trust to his or her aesthetic abilities and feeling in order to
perform product design of complex-shaped products like car hoods,
consumer appliances, toys, packaging, etc..
• Two European projects..
(i) FIORES
(ii) FIORES II
Formalization and Integration of an Optimized Reverse Engineering Styling
Workflow
• Aim of this projects at building innovative CAD tools that adhere to the
creative user mentality and at improving the cooperation between the main
players involved in the product development process.
Intelligent advisory system with expert knowledge
• For suitable design solutions, designer needs to consider different factors among those
aesthetic and ergonomics are important.
• Less experienced person may face many problems in this stage of design.
• CAD software can give a better solution but, it can’t give designer’s skill and
experience.
• Here comes the role of Intelligent advisory system.
• It provide expert advice to designer at aesthetic and ergonomic stage.
Aesthetic and ergonomic design cycle using intelligent advisory system
1. Firstly, design is prepared, then advisory system is used to improve
the aesthetic an ergonomic values.
2. Modeling is done in CAD modeller , here the ergonomic analysis
and aesthetic evaluation is done.
3. Advisory system will advise whether to redesign to improve the
aesthetic and ergonomic value.
General architecture of advisory system
• Investigating and collecting data of theoretical and practical knowledge
about design and redesign.
• After that formulation is done, commonly used rule for encoding formalism
is production rule.
• Collected rules will make knowledge base for system.
• Encoding rules by prolog syntax and developing of system.
computer aided ergonomics and aesthetic design
conclusion
• As the cad software don’t provide the exact solution to design
it provides as similar types of design values.
• As the aesthetic and ergonomic is important factors in design
process, we need to use CAD software and advisory systems
for optimize design.
• Which should provide designer optimize advice during
designing and redesign of product.

  • 18. conclusion • As the cad software don’t provide the exact solution to design it provides as similar types of design values. • As the aesthetic and ergonomic is important factors in design process, we need to use CAD software and advisory systems for optimize design. • Which should provide designer optimize advice during designing and redesign of product.
