1. Music industry market research
I gave a mix of 20 people a questionnaire to fill out with various questions about music magazines
and their preferences of music. The purpose of the questionnaire is to isolate the target audiences
needs for a music magazine and to define what customers would want from a magazine.
Gender

Male
Firstly, I distributed 20 questionnaires. I managed to get an even distribution of gender by giving 10
of them to females and 10 to males.

Indie Hip-hop/R&B Rock Pop
2. This bar chart shows that the majority of people I surveyed listen to mainly rock music. Just
over half of these people were males. The only genres of music mentioned were pop, indie and hip-
hop/r&b showing that these are the most popular genres. The genre that most females said they
listened to was pop; therefore I think that if I create a pop magazine then it would be a good idea to
target mainly a female audience and males preferred mainly rock.

The main ages that I surveyed were between 16-20 however there were 2 people 40+. This is quite
an uneven distribution and it would have been better to survey a wider variety of ages. However,
this is good research if I wanted to make a magazine specifically targeted at 16-20 year olds if I
ignored the 40+.

3. On the questionnaire I asked people what they like to see in magazines. The top interests were
photographs and interviews so I would make these a main component to any magazine.
When I asked what ‘other’ things people were interested in new bands, free stuff, embarrassing
stories, reviews, free posters and news were all suggested.
