Big Data is a hot topic but is also notoriously famous for being hard to use. This talk follows the 5-year chronology of Hue, an open source Web UI designed to make Apache Hadoop easier to use. It shares the mutations, UX tweaks that mattered, Web gotchas and lessons learned along the way. The major new innovations like the dynamic Search Dashboard and Notebook interfaces are presented along with backend/frontend implementation techniques that allowed a team of 3 to be extremely productive.
