1. PREVENTING SOIL EROSION
Humans are the stewards of the earth. We are
endowed/gifted with talents and skills to use
Earth’s resources wisely in order to improve our
lives. Our future and the future of the earth lie in
our hands. Soil erosion and the problems it
causes can be prevented if we work hand in
hand.
3. 1. Responsible Farming
a. Terracing
-is a method of farming helps
prevent the forceful flow of water
down the slope by building stairlike
structures on the slope of a
mountain.
4.
5. b. Contour plowing
is a method of farming wherein
farmers follow the contours of the land
in planting crops. This method helps

8. c. Strip cropping
is a method of planting crops in strips
of land. In this method, two or more
crops are planted alternately on the field.
This is done to preserve minerals of the
soil and to prevent soil erosion as the
crops are harvested alternately.

11. 2. REFORESTATION
is the planting of trees in a forested area.
This helps prevent exposure of soil to agents
of erosion. The roots of the tress hold the
particles of soil together and prevent them
from being eroded by wind and water.

14. 3. Educating People
Most of the farmers who engages in kaingin
method are landless. They should be taught about
responsible farming methods. This will help them
learn that misuse of land can have serious
consequences. They have to know that the problems
brought about soil erosion are caused by destructive
human activities such as illegal logging and
irresponsible mining.
