With Yoyodyne he came up with the idea of permission marketing were the business provides something “anticipated, personal, and relevant.” He has written 11 books, his “Free Prize Inside” was a Forbes Business Book of the Year in 2004,”Purple Cow” sold over 150,000 copies. “The Dip” was a Business Week and New York Times bestseller. The book stated a lot about being a leader and being inventive. Godin talked a lot about not being afraid to go with your ideas because all success comes from unique ideas and you shouldn’t be afraid to make the suggestions or go against the crowd because that is how you make things happen. Also even if your idea fails, you didn’t lose anything you are just in the same spot as before and you or your company will be fine. I likes the quote because it kind of summarized the book for me. You can be a leader but if nobody agrees or follows you, then you won’t be able to accomplish much.
It surprised me how simple he made It seem. It seems that anyone with an idea that isn’t afraid to share it, has the ability to be a leader. He states a number of times in the book that the most important thing is to states your ideas because it is very possible that many people think or feel the same way. Many people don’t tell their ideas because they are afraid people will disagree or the idea will fail, however the ones that do are more likely to succeed. He emphasized how there are people who will choose to follow the crowd, or think they have too, and there will always be those people. Also that it’s important to have those people because the leaders need people to help them and follow their ideas to further it and make it successful.
This book made me interesting in the other books he has written. His way of writing as well as the information he has is very interesting and draws the reader in. It also is very useful in life and I wonder if all his works are like that. I also think the children’s books about the video games would be very fun and interesting to read. I also want to view how the techniques have helped people succeed other than the examples he showed in the book. Maybe see if I can find them on my own in everyday life. I think that was he suggested in the book can be used in all aspects of life, not just in the business world. After reading, it makes me want to remember and use these ideas in my life and see where it takes me. I have already started to notice it around me.
