British Romanticism was a reaction against Enlightenment values from 1750-1837. It celebrated emotion, nature, and the human spirit. The Industrial Revolution caused social upheaval as cities grew and most people faced poor working conditions. Romantic poetry focused on expressing personal feelings through forms like odes, ballads, lyrics and elegies. Wordsworth's poem "Composed Upon Westminster Bridge" describes the natural beauty and tranquility of London at sunrise.
