 Performance 1 (12+12+6) (15%)
 Commentary (10) (5%)
 Composition 1 (15+5) (10%)

 Planning/preparing “sketches” for
composition
 Brief – paragraph 4 (this need only be a short
paragraph)
 Think about the features in your piece that
you will use in your composition. This could
be: structure, harmony, techniques (should
include techniques, just don’t talk too much
about it)
 WHY will you use them? (Effective in giving
character to piece? Good use of the
instrument? Etc
 Which particular techniques are you going to
use?
 Singers – what set of words will you choose?
How does this relate to your song?
 What will the mood/style of your piece be and
how will you use your instrument to achieve
this?
 Style? Perhaps influenced by your
composition? Eg Blues, jazz, classical (?), or
simply just a flute and piano piece etc
 Structure and keys
 Melodic ideas? 2-4 bar opening phrase?
 Accompaniment? Chords? Style of
accompaniment?
