Analysis for Attack the Block
Attack the Block was released in May 2011. Thedirector of the film was Joe
Cornish. The production companies that produced the film were The UK Film
Council, Studio Canal, Big Talk Pictures and Film4 Productions. Thefilm made
$5,824,175and thebudget of the film was £8 million.
The film is about a Sci – fi horror fiction this is becauseit is more appealing to
the target audience of the age between 15 and over. The reason why the age
rating is 15 and abovefor this movie is because it contains violence, softdrug
use and gore.
This poster seems like the movie was set in a council estate in South London
wherein the background there are the iconic buildings of London such as the
Gherkin. The buildings are distance to wherethe modern society of London is
which lets the audience know that this film was filmed and created in London.
As you can tell movie was filmed at night becausethere are streaks of light
falling down from the sky this shows thatthere is a possiblealien invasion. You
can also see the mist swirling around in the sky which gives us an idea of an
uneasy mystery. Thetower block is very big and intimidating. The shots that
were used were a low angle and long shot.
The characters on the poster show a diverse ethnic group were there is a black,
white and mixed community. The clothing that they are all wearing was all
casualas they are all about to go and battle with aliens. In the poster you can
see a guy holding a large weapon of somesorton his back where you can also
see a young boy who is sitting on a bike which shows that he is involved in the
‘gang’ becausehe thinks that he is big and better. This also shows that it is
targeted at a working class environmentwhich annotates an idea for fighting
and violence. The way that these people arestanding shows thatthey are
together in a team to saveeach other fromanything which represents them as
a gang. The guy on the left of the poster is overweightand cannottake care of
himself this shows a typical stereotypeof a ‘overweightwhite man who lives in
a council flat’ this can be seen as a target audience widener because having a
man like him shows thathe is very funny and that comedy will be involved.
RAGWANA AKRAM12C
Tagline is aboutgiving the audience more narrativeclues such as binary
oppositions which show the contrastbetween two concepts such as good/evil,
day/night etc. these reinforce the sci-fi genreof which appeals the audience to
watch this movie.
The producers fromShaun of the dead made a success becausepeople
enjoyed watching it which would encouragemore people to come and watch
Attack the Block.
Attack the Block has a facebook page to create morepublicity which would
make their audience engage with their social media campaign, this make
people wantto get involved. Institutionallogos are there to show who helped
make the film or have any association with the movie.
