EVALUATION
I was asked to create a radio programme for students. The radio programme that I
created was about extra – curricular activities in schools and if students attended these
sessions. I have also found statistics and case studies which shows how many people
attend these sessions and if they help the student improve their learning in school.
Before I created my radio programme I had to do a few researches which were about
other radio shows such as BBC Radio one, Capital FM etc.
The reason why I have decided to plan my radio programme was because if I were to go
straight into making it then the radio programme would have definitely gone wrong.
This is better because you know what you are going to do to make your programme go
well.
The target audience has influenced my planning because it shows what they want to
hear on a radio how. This also shows if they are interested in listening because the ages
range from 12 to 18. This type of element describe that if you do not know who your
target audience are then most likely the finished product that you are trying to create
won’t be as good as you expected it to be.
The different types of research that I have conducted were that I had to find out the
different types of audio formats, what young people like listening to and what the types
of radio shows the listen to. One of the things that I have added on to my recorded radio
shows was a few bits of jingles which are a little sound clips that are overlapped on top
of a person’s voice. What I have also done was that during the talk, there was a little
pause and a bit of jingles until the next person started to talk again.
What I did first was that I had to plan what I was going to say during the actual
recording. Which I then typed all the questions on Microsoft Word. The presenter and
the teacher (Anisha & Mr Woollard) used a capacitor mic to record the questions and
answers to do this we had to use the application called reason this allowed us to see
whether the sound was on, off or not working. The reason why we needed to use these
microphones was because if we wanted any type of sound, then we would need a high
quality one which we would be able to hear a nice clear voice speaking into the mic. I
and Anisha then used an mp3 recorder to record our interviewee’s answers.
The aim of having a really good script was because if we wanted our radio programme
to sound really decent then this way we would have loads of people who would want to
listen to our radio programme. I think the creation of my radio programme was
successful because it sounded like something a 12-18year old would want to hear if this
was actually broadcasted onto a real radio programme this is because it relates to the
fact that they all attend school and at some point during school they will most likely
attend an extra – curricular activity club.
I also think that the quality of the recording was really good because I couldn’t hear any
unwanted background sounds, this means that there was nothing wrong with the audio.
The voice of my presenter was successful because she spoke very clearly and the tone of
her voice was subtle because the style she used was presenter-like. There was a moment
where I didn’t create a jingle because it was already on ‘reason’ but, I did create another
original jingle which faded out after the person finished talking.

During the post-production process, I achieved a smooth flowed radio show this was
because I have edited a few of the clips out where there were background music and I
have also added effects to the audio clip which would fade the sound out when the
person finishes talking. The reason to why I didn’t want any long pauses was because
no one would listen to it if the radio show didn’t have any sound. The audio clips that I
recorded had a suitable volume to each other because the background sounds were the
same and there was no high or too low sound during the audio clips. The reason to why
we have to have a good mix is because you want the radio show to sound like it is
engaging with the audience and that the sounds are to a suitable volume.
My radio show has met the criteria because I have included all the relevant and
important information onto my radio show. The reason why I think my radio show is
really good because in the brief it says that I have to edit and keep the relevant parts of
the interview onto the radio broadcast. I have also talked about extra activities as to
why I have created the radio show. The radio programmes that I have watched were
Nick Grimshaw’s breakfast show; he sounded very confident and engaged well with his
audience where as I have also tried to do that for my radio show. The only thing that I
could say to improve is that I should have had more time to write and prepare the
speech.
Overall I think that my radio broadcast show went pretty well because I did meet the
criteria and that I have also tried my hardest to achieve a merit/distinction for this
work.
