It’s no secret that businesses run on information. Massive amounts of data are pouring in from applications on mobile devices, tablets, the Cloud and other sources. If you were to ask for a one-slide summary of what’s new in our Private and Infrastructure Cloud technology in this launch, here it is.We have made important updates in our unified storage family, both in terms of flash technology and file storage. First, in our HUS VM line, the changes mean it can deliver 1 Million IOPS performance while maintaining all the robust functionality and unified/simplified management customers have come to expect. Our File Storage capability of Unified Storage (also sold as gateways, of course) has jumped in performance to be around twice as fast as our competition based on published benchmarks, and offers advantages of leading de-dupe technology, and TCO advantages via massive consolidation.Also, our Unified Compute Platform solutions have been extensively enhanced with more automation, better performance and they continue to offer a compelling TCO.We will talk through all of these technologies now at a high level.
We are introducing Hitachi Accelerated Flash storage to the HUS VM. It was previously available only on Virtual Storage PlatformThe HUS VM base operating system has been optimized to increase the overall performance when configured with Hitachi Accelerated Flash (Presenters note: Just be aware with the first two additions – which shipping NOW to customers, we can deliver 500K IOPS at <1ms.)HUS VM is a unified platform and is being completely refreshed with the new generation of file modules to increase overall efficiency and performanceIn the fall of 2013 we will release another update to the system software of HUS VM which will double performance yet again to 1,000,000 IOPS

For our Unified Storage File Capability, or stand alone gateways, what we’ve delivered is a generational turn of the hardware. Our hybrid-core architecture that blends Intel and FPGA NAS technologies for ultimate performance has seen processer speed enhancements. The IP and fibre-channel networks have both seen doubling of their capability, and all the systems have increased memory.This delivers a massive performance and capacity support boost, and puts us at roughly double our key, similarly priced competition.All these benefits are delivered while maintaining a common operating system from the prior generation, and all through the family. While not specifically new with this launch, we are very excited about the reception our deduplication technology is getting in the market place.We are seeing up to 90% data reduction. Though, clearly that requires a very specific environment like VDI. More typically customers with “normal” file systems might expect to see around 30%.But more importantly, our technology is resonating because customers can set it and forget it. The system automatically manages how active the deduplication processes are based on the amount of file sharing is active in the environment.
