When it comes to countries with a rich, diverse, but endangered cultural heritage like Romania, with a rather weak participation of society to public life, voluntarism is a way of action that needs to be (re)discovered by both citizens and organizations. Bringing the two terms together is not an easy task and the direction to be followed is not an obvious one. The intervention focuses on the present state of voluntary activities in the field of cultural heritage in Romania, where the situation is defined by the state’s (lack of) capacity and involvement. Subjects will include the raising activism of individuals and organizations from Bucharest, the position of Romanian public institutions and the profile of the present and potential volunteers. Volunteering for culture is a pilot project of the Center of Professional Training in Culture, aiming to encourage and support cultural organizations and volunteers to meet each other and collaborate. As pilot project, the action focuses on the city of Bucharest. The website created in the project is its main output, an electronic instrument that facilitates and intermediates between cultural organizations and potential volunteers.
