2. Flickr’s Photo Map is a great way to travel without ever leaving your desk.
This tutorial will demonstrate how to find images from across the globe.
First, use your web browser to visit www.flickr.com.
3. In the black navigation bar appearing along the top of the webpage, you’ll see the
word “Explore.” Hold your mouse over this word. This should bring up a list of
applications, allowing you to select “World Map.”
4. This will take you to the World Map start page. On the bottom, you’ll
see a button labeled “Search the map.”
5. Clicking this button will bring up a two-part search. In the first box, type
the subject you’re looking for. In the second, type the location. Then,
click the button marked “go.”
6. When the map zooms in, a row of small images (or “thumbnails”) will appear
across the bottom of the screen. A series of pink dots will also appear on the
map indicating photo locations. You can click any of these to bring up a larger
view of the related image.
7. If you see something you like, click on the larger view to navigate to the photo
page for a closer look.
8. Scrolling down on the page will show you more about the photo: date, location,
camera settings, Flickr user activity, related photo albums, and any descriptive
information the photographer has chosen to include.
9. If you have a Flickr account, you can “star” the photo on the lower right to
add it to your favorites. This will help you find it again later.
When you’re ready to find something new, click “Back to map” on the
lower left. Repeat this process with new search terms to continue
exploring what the World Map has to offer. Have fun!
