2011: Ireland In Numbers
• 17,386 dogs came into pounds in the Republic of Ireland
• Of these 5,586 (33%) were put to sleep
• An average of 15 dogs per day
• Some pounds put down 84% of dogs that come through their doors, some 1%.
• Stray Dogs have 5 days; Surrendered Dogs have 24 hours
South Dublin County Council (in co-operation with A Dog’s Life)
• Approx. 1,000 – 1,200 dogs come through SDCC pound each year
• A Dog’s Life finds places for approx. 75-80% of them with the rest being
rehomed directly due mainly to our bi-weekly Facebook campaigns
• South Dublin County Council’s put to sleep rate was only 6% thanks to the
work of A Dog’s Life

Our Mission:
• To promote and provide for the welfare of dogs in Ireland by rescuing the stray
and surrendered dogs from the pound so that they are not euthanised and
providing them with the chance of a better life; and at the same time raise
awareness and educate the public about the magnitude of this problem in
Ireland.
Funding:
• Direct Donations (supporters)
• Fundraisers (Street Collection, Bag-packing, Xmas Calendars and Cards,
Quizzes, Raffles, Sponsored Events, etc
• 100% Volunteer-ran organisation (no salaries)

5. A Dog’s Life – What We Do
1. Rescue
• Rehome directly in Ireland with suitable adopters
- Home-Checks are carried out
- Suitability assessments and follow-ups are made by our Dog Trainer and Behaviour Analyst
• Find spaces with our Partner Rescues in Ireland, UK, Sweden, Czech Republic
• Reunite stray dogs with their families
• Find caring Foster-Homes or countryside boarding to minimise time spent in the
pound
2. Provide veterinary treatment & screening
• Neuter, vaccinate and professionally assess all dogs in our care
3. Drive Education / Awareness Campaigns
• Educate about responsible ownership of dogs.
• Raise awareness about the current problems in Ireland regarding stray dogs and
irresponsible breeding

owner. shave all my hair off. I was so cold, but
I think people call this a bad hair day. my new owner gave me a jumper to
stay warm.
