X ray
1. • Presentación
X-Ray or Röntgen rays
Wilhelm Röntgen's first "medical" X-ray, of his wife's hand, taken on 22 December 1895
2. Introduction
• X-rays are electromagnetic waves of short
wavelength capable of penetrating some
thickness of matter.
• X-ray is an important technology to the modern
world. X-ray is used for various purposes like
Medical and Security.
• Medical X-rays are produced by letting a stream
of fast electrons come to a sudden stop at a
metal plate.
3. Medical Use (Diagnosis)
• X-ray is a boon to medical science.
• X-rays are useful in the detection of pathology of
the skeletal system as well as for detecting some
disease processes in soft tissue.
• X-rays may also be used to detect pathology such
as gallstones (which are rarely radiopaque) or
kidney stones.
• X-rays are also commonly used in dentistry, as X-
ray imaging is useful in the diagnoses of common
oral problems, such as cavities.
4. Medical Use (Treatment)
• The use of X-rays as a treatment is known as
radiation therapy and is largely used for the
management of cancer; it requires higher
radiation energies than for imaging alone.
• Radiation therapy is commonly applied to the
cancerous tumor because of its ability to control
cell growth by damaging them.
