A. Introductory Years – Middle of 1990’s
• Mostly were LAN shops offering
LAN games such as Counter Strike
and encoding services.
• Were mostly located near schools
• Some offered internet through dial
up connection – generally slow
• First online games were introduced
• Prices of services generally high
since there are only a few players –
huge investment since computer
units were very expensive

• The growth of the industry was
fueled by the introduction of a
fast internet connection.
• LAN shops became a full
service internet cafes that
offered online services like
online games, video streaming,
uploading, ect.
• Falling prices of PC’s made it
possible for invest in the
business
• Further growth was brought about by the introduction of free to play
online games and social networking sites such as Friendster and
Facebook
• Increase in the number of internet cafes brought stiff competition
among internet cafes.

• Internet Cafes are now an accepted form of

private homes
