2. Cool roofs are the roofs that can deliver
high solar reflectance (the ability to reflect the
visible, infrared and ultraviolet wavelengths of the
sun, reducing heat transfer to the building) and
high thermal emittance (the ability to radiate
absorbed, or non-reflected solar energy).The
benefits associated with cool roofs include
reduced cooling energy load, reduced air pollution
and greenhouse gas emission, and improved human
health and comfort. Cool roofs may extend the
roof service life and help in mitigating the urban
heat island effect. Cool roofs achieve cooling
energy savings in hot summers but can increase
heating energy load during cold winters.

11. What is Energy Star ???
ENERGY STAR is a joint program of
the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency and the U.S.
Department of Energy helping us
all save money and protect the
environment through energy
efficient products and practices.

36. Key Definitions
„ TSR / Total Solar Reflectance: amount of radiant energy
reflected by a roofing material. Range is from 0 (total
absorption and/or transmission) to 1.0 (total reflection).
„ Thermal Emittance: the ability of a material to release heat that
it has absorbed. Range is from 0 to 1.0. The higher the emittance
the better
„ Production Line Color: “Standard color offerings by the
manufacturer and are promoted in general product information
and in marketing materials”
„ Custom Color: A Custom Color is not individually promoted in
general product information and marketing materials.
„ Color Families: 18 specific color space ranges designed by the CMRC
to allow Licensed Sellers with large color portfolios to
register groups of colors at a reduced cost with the CRRC. (
Hunter L a b / Default SRV )
„ AITL: Accredited Independent Test Laboratory. Independent lab
accredited by the CRRC to evaluate radiative properties of
roofing materials
„ AMTL: Accredited Manufacturing Test Laboratory. Lab affiliated
with a Licensed Seller or OM accredited by the CRRC to evaluate
radiative properties of roofing materials
