Keeping in mind the differential seen in the normal growth within an individual, the assessment of maturation of a structure based on the evaluation of another may not be accurate. Hence, understanding the importance of skeletal maturation in the diagnosis and treatment planning of an individual this study was undertaken in search of achieving a more reliable and accurate skeletal maturity indicator
A definite curvi-linear increase was observed between the values of the mandibular corpus and the effective mandibular length. A similar increase of corpus index was observed corresponding with each stage of CVM. A definite intrinsic indicator scoring was observed with each stage of the cervical vertebral maturation.
no significant co relation was found.
According to Hassel and Farman’s description of the CVM stages,
The cephalo-caudal gradient of growth shows the mandible being farther away from the brain grows for a longer time and more than the maxilla.
