• Interxion commissioned IDG Connect to conduct a survey of 625 enterprise IT decision-
makers and influencers in 2014
• Respondents came from an equal spread across Europe, incl. the UK, France, Germany,
Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden
• Research objective was to provide an insight into the current and future data centre and
cloud strategies and preferred computing models of medium- and large-sized enterprises
(100+ employees, private sector)

• A new, ‘cloud computing’ era of IT is dawning, creating a new ‘IT reality’ where multi-
sourcing of compute resources is becoming the norm.
• Enterprise cloud adoption is fast becoming a reality, however for most companies (with
legacy IT) it is a transition over time.
• The research shows that today’s reality as well as the mid- to long-term future in terms of
preferred computing models will be hybrid.
• PaaS is becoming an increasingly important cloud adoption model enabling the business.

KEY FINDINGS (CONT’D)
• As a result of cloud adoption, enterprise data centre strategies are changing as well, with
enterprises increasingly opting for external (outsourced) data centres or colocation.
• Connectivity between on-premise and off-premise is a key requirement for acceleration of
cloud adoption. Based on security and performance requirements, the Internet is not good
enough for many companies.
• Direct connects - already considered by 23% of enterprises – could break these barriers
of cloud adoption.
• The ideal place for Enterprises to architect their Hybrid IT solutions is a colocation data
centre, which best facilitates a multi-sourcing strategy.
