ALBANY PARK -- Take a canoe trip back in time along the Chicago River, viewing the waterway from
the perspective of early explorers.
The tour, led by Friends of the Chicago River, sets out at 10 a.m. Sunday from the River Park boat
launch (west of the river, north of Argyle, map here). Cost of the event is $8 per person and
is appropriate for ages 6 and up. Advanced registration is required, either online or by calling 312-
550-6150.

2. More weekend fun:
o Theatre Hikes presents "The Man in the Iron Mask," 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Horner Park,
2741 W. Montrose Ave. Be prepared, as the name of the theater troupe implies, to walk from scene
to scene.
o The Independence Park Farmers Market, 3945 N. Springfield Ave., is Michelin-rated for a reason.
In addition to fruit and vegetable stands, the market includes a variety of entertainment and
education options. A highlight this weekend is a free demonstration of the latest fitness craze, Nia,
at 11 a.m. The market is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
o Ald. Ameya Pawar will once again lead this annual ride through the 47th ward, 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Saturday. All ages are welcome to come along on the leisurely four-mile ride, which sets out from
4200 N. Ravenswood Ave., rain or shine. Register in advance online, where participants will be
asked to sign an electronic waiver.
o North Center's green thumbs will be on display during the Northcenter Neighborhood
Association's annual garden walk, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. More than 40 homes are participating and
there will be music and other surprises along the route. Maps for the self-guided walk are available
at the tour's starting point, Bell School, 3730 N. Oakley Ave. A suggested donation of $5 benefits the
Common Pantry.
o At a letterpress swap meet, people can check out type, equipment, paper samples and more from 9

3. a.m. to noon, Saturday, Bethany United Church of Christ, 4250 N. Paulina St. Open to the public,
free entry.
o Chicago's newest fest, the Elston Avenue Sausage Music Fest, makes its debut Saturday and
Sunday. Paulina Meat Market and Big Fork Brands (known for their bacon sausage) are among the
purveyors. The fest is headquartered outside the Abbey Pub, 3800 N. Elston Ave., noon to 10 p.m.
both days.
