3. • 또 자기를 의롭다고 믿고 다른 사람을 멸시하는 자들에게 이 비유로 말씀하
시되,두 사람이 기도하러 성전에 올라가니 하나는 바리새인이요 하나는 세
리라.
• 바리새인은 서서 따로 기도하여 이르되 하나님이여 나는 다른 사람들 곧 토
색, 불의, 간음을 하는 자들과 같지 아니하고 이 세리와도 같지 아니함을 감
사하나이다. 나는 이레에 두 번씩 금식하고 또 소득의 십일조를 드리나이다
하고,
• 세리는 멀리 서서 감히 눈을 들어 하늘을 쳐다보지도 못하고 다만 가슴을 치
며 이르되 하나님이여 불쌍히 여기소서 나는 죄인이로소이다 하였느니라.
• 내가 너희에게 이르노니 이에 저 바리새인이 아니고 이 사람이 의롭다 하심
을 받고 그의 집으로 내려갔느니라 무릇 자기를 높이는 자는 낮아지고 자기
를 낮추는 자는 높아지리라 하시니라 (누가복음 18:9-14)

8. • 아무 일에든지 다툼이나 허영으로 하지 말고 오직 겸손한 마음
으로 각각 자기보다 남을 낫게 여기고 (빌립보서 2:3)
• Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in
humility value others above yourselves, (Philippians 2:3)
• 하나님은 교만한 자를 대적하시되 겸손한 자들에게는 은혜를
주시느니라. 그러므로 하나님의 능하신 손 아래에서 겸손하라
때가 되면 너희를 높이시리라 (베드로전서 5:5b,6)

• 예수는 하나님으로부터 나와서 우리에게 지혜와 의로움과 거룩함과 구
원함이 되셨으니. 기록된 바 자랑하는 자는 주 안에서 자랑하라 함과 같
게 하려 함이라 (고린도전서 1:30b,31)
• Who (Jesus) has become for us wisdom from God — that is, our
righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written:
“Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 30b:31)

11. • 수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬
게 하리라. 나는 마음이 온유하고 겸손하니 나의 멍에를 메고
내게 배우라 그리하면 너희 마음이 쉼을 얻으리니. 이는 내 멍
에는 쉽고 내 짐은 가벼움이라 하시니라. (마태복음 11:28 - 30)
• Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will
give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for
I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for
your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light
(Matthew 11: 28– 30).

19. HOW TO FIGHT PRIDE
by John Piper
• call to mind that I am not self-existent
• remember that I am by nature a depraved sinner
• ponder that this condition of mine is so desperate that it could only be remedied at
the cost of the horrid death of the Son of God
• meditate on those Scriptures (1 Peter 5:5-6, Luke 9:48, Mark 9:35, Matthew 20:26)
• pray that the eyes of my heart would see these biblical truths for what they really
are
• ask God to make me not just see them but also feel them with a sense of the
meekness and lowliness and brokenness that corresponds to their true weight

20. HOW TO FIGHT PRIDE

• renounce desires for praise and notoriety and esteem when I see them
rising - I say, “No! In the name of Jesus get out of my head!”
• try to receive all criticism—from friend or foe—with the assumption that
there is almost certainly some truth in it that I can benefit from (James
1:19)
• strive to cultivate a joy in Christ and his wisdom and power and justice
and love that is more satisfying than the pleasures of human praise
• turn often to older writers who knew God at depths which most of us
modern people seem incapable of (ex. Jonathan Edwards)
