Key Concepts
Our eyes enable us to see the colors, sizes, shapes, positions
and movements of the things around us. If we look closely at the
eyes, we see a transparent covering. This is called the cornea.
Behind it is the colored part of the eyes, the iris. In the middle of the
iris is the pupil.
The retina is at the back of the eyeball which contains two types
of cells, the rods and the cones.
The Optic nerve sends the information to our brain and we see
the picture right side up.

Oh no! I’m absent today. I will not
know what our topic will be in Science
for today. Rico told me that our topic
for today will be about different parts
of the plant and its functions.
Hello there Lily! I am Rosey and
I hear all your problems. I think
I can help you in your problem!
Wow! A talking plant! Are you sure
you can help me in learning about
parts of the plant and the functions of
each parts?
Of course I can! Can’t you see I’m a
plant? Well I’ll give you some activities
that will help you understand our
parts and the functions of each part.

Key Concepts
Roots take in water and food (mineral salts) from soil. Anchors
plants. The roots of a plant are spread out.
Stem “Like a straw", transports water through plant. Raises the
height of flowers and leaves. Brings closer to light. Structural. The
stem is made up of little tubes.
Leaves has different shapes. Almost always green but
sometimes covered with another color such as red. Green substance
in leaves -> chlorophyll. Leaves make food for the plant. To do this
they need the water and mineral salts obtained from the soil. They
are carried inside little veins in the leaf. To make food leaves also
need sunshine and CO2.
Flowers produce seeds which form new plants.
Space and warmth also needed for a plant to grow.
Fruits like Apples and oranges come to mind when most people
think of fruit, but a flowers fruits are ripened ovules, containing
seeds. Some plant fruits are edible, such as tomatoes, cucumbers or
pumpkins. The fruits develop a fleshy or hard exterior, to protect the
developing seeds inside.
Seeds are plant embryos. Seeds are contained within the
plant's fruit while they germinate. They have an endosperm, which is
formed at fertilization and is a short-term food supply for the seed to
use while it grows. Animals, wind or water can move

strings from the center.
Data and Observations
Activity Observations
Color Wheel to White?
Comprehension Check
1. What are the colors used in each part of the color wheel
consecutively?
2. What happen when you spin the color wheel by using string?

Procedure: 1. Find a place where there is sunlight.
2. Put the paper behind the triangular prism and observe.
Data and Observations
Activity Observations
Let us Divide the light!
Comprehension Check
1. What happen when you put the paper behind the prism?
2. What material is used to divide the light?
3. What are the colors that appear in the shadow of the prism?
Wow! That is amazing like a
magic. When I spin the color
wheel, it becomes white.
All colors except black when
combined become color white.
Now here’s another one.
4. Aside from the prism, where can you find these colors?
5. How many colors are there in the rainbow?
6. What happen if you place the prism in no sunlight?
Enrichment Card 1
1. Draw a color wheel and label its color consecutively.
Enrichment Card 2
1. Write a song about different kinds of color. Write the
importance of light in our daily life.
How’s your song? Can you
enumerate each color of the light?
Now proceed to your assessment
card! Good luck!
Assessment Card 1
Direction: Write True if the statement is correct and False if it is
incorrect.
1. Water can reflect the colors of sunlight.
2. W sees the colors of non luminous objects.
3. We can see colors even when it is dark.
4. Sunlight can show the different colors.
5. The rainbow has eight colors.
Assessment Card 2
Direction: Explain these. Write your answer in your notebook.
1. Why do you see the color of your clothes?
2. What color does a red rose reflect and what colors dose it
absorbs?
3. How would a blue bag look if it did not reflect light?
4. How can different colors be recombined into white light?
Reference Card
Key Concepts
White light consists of seven colors: red, orange, yellow, green,
blue, indigo and violet or acronym ROY G BIV.
We see different colors because there is light. The color of an
object is the color it reflects. When white light shines on something,
some of the colors are absorbed and others are reflected.
All the colors are found in sunlight. When the sun shines on a
non luminous object like a green leaf, the leaf reflects the green light
in sunlight. Non luminous objects that don’t produce or emit light
absorb all the other colors in sunlight, so we see green leaf. If there
is no light, the leaf would look dark. White is the presence of all
colors while black is the absence of all colors. So you don’t see any
color in something that is black.

proper clothes during Rainy or Sunny day?
Reference Card
Key Concepts
The weather affects people, their clothes, occupation or work.
Their leisure activities vary according to the conditions of the
weather.
During sunny weather, people wear light clothes. They use hats
and umbrellas to protect themselves from the extreme heat of the
sun. They use electric fans and air conditioners to cool themselves.
They go to the beaches. They go Picnics.
During rainy days, people avoid going out. If they do, they use
umbrellas or raincoats to protect themselves from getting wet. They
also wear thicker clothes to keep them warm.

If we look closely at the eyes, we see a transparent covering. This is called the cornea. Behind it is the colored part of the eyes, the iris. In the middle of the iris is the pupil. The retina is at the back of the eyeball which contains two types of cells, the rods and the cones. The Optic nerve sends the information to our brain and we see the picture right side up. Flowers produce seeds which form new plants. Space and warmth also needed for a plant to grow. Fruits like Apples and oranges come to mind when most people think of fruit, but a flowers fruits are ripened ovules, containing seeds. Some plant fruits are edible, such as tomatoes, cucumbers or pumpkins. The fruits develop a fleshy or hard exterior, to protect the developing seeds inside. Seeds are plant embryos. Seeds are contained within the plant's fruit while they germinate. They have an endosperm, which is formed at fertilization and is a short-term food supply for the seed to use while it grows. The color of an object is the color it reflects. When white light shines on something, some of the colors are absorbed and others are reflected. All the colors are found in sunlight. When the sun shines on a non luminous object like a green leaf, the leaf reflects the green light in sunlight. Non luminous objects that don’t produce or emit light absorb all the other colors in sunlight, so we see green leaf. If there is no light, the leaf would look dark. White is the presence of all colors while black is the absence of all colors. So you don’t see any color in something that is black. Reference Card Marilyn U. Balagtas.
