end of the 1919 season, Leonard and Tiger teammate Cobb, along with two
Cleveland Indians, had arranged to throw a game and bet on it. According to
Leonard, Cobb was planning to bet $2,000 on the game, but apparently didn't get his money down
on time. Therefore, when Johnson turned the case over to commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis,
Landis exonerated all parties involved, stating the case to be "rather old" and sensing

immense pain in their lower back in a bathtub full of ice to discover that their kidneys have been
removed. This urban legend warns travelers, such as business men or women, that "medically

an outbreak, and it was believed that this urban legend was to be a real story. It is unknow why this
urban legend started. In the article "The Kidney Thieves an Urban Legend" by David Emery states,
"As the city geared up for its annual Mardi Gras festivities in January, a rumor began spreading via
word–or–mouth, fax, and forward email to effect that a highly organized crime ring in New Orleans
was carrying out plans to drug visiting tourists, surgically remove healthy kidneys from their bodies,
and sell the organs on the black market." As a result of this urban legend arising immensely, the
local police department were receiving calls from many people claiming their kidneys were stolen.
Authorities organized an investigation regarding these insane story, only to find no true evidence of
this occurring. Even the National Kidney Foundation had repeatedly asked for alleged victims of
this crime to validate their stories and come forward, but to this day no person has. This goes to

have brought dramatic social, economic, political and cultural impact on every aspects of Chinese
society. However, does this mean there's a totally new way for Chinese people to relate to one
another in modern Chinese nation–state? To answer this question, a rethinking of Fei's theory in his
book from the soil the foundations of Chinese society is needed. As a key word to understand the
traditional Chinese relationship, the "mode of differential association" summarizes three characters
of this kind of society: acquaintance society based on small–scale peasant economy, patrilineal
relationship as the core of social relationships and rite order whose members are differentiated by
the sequence of ethics. In this essay, I will try to summarize new changes in contemporary Chinese

Baseball has been an American essential since the 1830's although it was not until the early 1900's
that baseball became a recognized profession. Baseball fans credit traditional media for permanently
establishing the sport itself through an objective style of writing that became hero crafting. Heroics
in baseball are defined by players that not only headline the news with their athletic prowess, but
also represent the game of baseball well and carry high character. A hero's actions change the way
the game is played and viewed. Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, Babe Ruth, and Mookie Betts all
boast different traits of heroism. While Cobb, Ruth, and Betts all bring unmatched ability to the
plate, Christy Mathewson best represents a baseball hero due to his on field dynamic performances
and exemplary character.
Mathewson's heroics begin on the field through his all star performances. He owns the mound where
his fastball and famous fadeaway pitch leave batters feeling baffled as they shuffle back to the
dugout. Soon after his arrival to the big league, Mathewson became an easily written, feel–good
family sports story due to his incredible performances and pure character. Despite a streaky start to
his pitching career, by 1905 the New York Giants dominated the league on every facet, posting a

Art Analysis Of Norman Rockwell's 'Breaking Home Ties'
The painting "Breaking Home Ties" was painted by Norman Rockwell in 1954. I chose this piece of
artwork specifically because it is the type of artwork that I can relate to as artwork. Norman
Rockwell is an artist that I grew up knowing his name through the type of artwork he created.
Rockwell's paintings were influenced a lot by his own family upbringing. The still art that he created
is known for not being modern art but rather people of the idealized America, something that many
people felt was misleading, an era of depression and change, but also artwork that was the easiest to
view because it was practical. The setting appears to be at a rundown railway station. Usually
country stations like this do not see many stops from people coming and going. The railing that is
barely visible at the bottom of the picture reassures that is indeed a train station. The aged truck that
the boy and his father are perched on while waiting, was nothing fancy and served its purpose for
transportation. More than likely this truck has been in the family awhile and is considered an
heirloom being handed down. The weathered flooring that lay to the tracks could withstand some
replacement, but that would probably not be logical with the little business that runs through this
part of the countryside. Rockwell's painting shows a man with his son, possibly leaving for college,
which is something that is not a common thing for country folk. If time is taken to analyze the
painting, although it appears practical, many ideas can come from the simplicity of it. The father and
son appear to be of a blue–collar, middle–class family. The importance of this, is the timing of the
painting. Rockwell painted this picture directly after America had been through an era of depression.
A time when family and togetherness was amidst the important things in life. Rockwell liked to
paint the real picture of humanity through his own eyes, and many times relating to his viewers in
that same way. Regardless of the reason, that we may never all agree on, the image he created for

Over the years, social media has changed from Six Degrees, which was a site similar to Facebook
and founded in 1997, to what is now Facebook and Twitter. All of these social media sites had one
thing in common, connection. When "friending" or "following" other people on these sites, you may
or may not know everyone you come into contact with. Then at a certain point the only thing you
want out of this to have as many "friends" or "followers" as you can. Gladwell argues "that it is the
quality of connections that people have (rather than the quantity of them) that leads to success in

"Small Change" was originally in an issue of the New Yorker and in this essay he discusses the
strong and weak ties that social media creates. As stated in the introduction and implemented
throughout his essay, Gladwell believes that you can have a large amount of followers or friends but
the quality of their participation will be very miniscule. The opposite being that if you don't have a

Alcohol dependence is on the rise throughout the United States, and effects a plethora of
interpersonal relationships. This was exemplified in "Under the Influence," by Scott Russell
Sanders. Through much research and reading, I have learned more about how alcohol dependence
effects family relationships, romantic relationships, and friend relationships. The negative effects of
alcohol dependence on interpersonal relationships is very prevalent for all age groups, and is a
problem that must be addressed. While many cannot tell the symptoms of alcoholism as easily as
others, many studies have found that alcohol dependence is more prevalent than those would
assume. Although many believe that alcohol only causes harm to the body, alcohol is the root cause
of many problems throughout many interpersonal relationships across the globe. Alcohol
dependence is sometimes known as alcoholism, and occurs when an individual relies on alcoholic
substances to get through everyday life. A recent study by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse
and Alcoholism found that 26.9 percent of people ages 18 or older have engaged in binge drinking
in the past month, and 15.1 million adults age 18 and older have an alcohol use disorder in the
United States. More than 10 percent of U.S. children live with a parent with alcohol problems
(Grant et al, 2004). Alcohol dependence has the capability to severely hurt children and spouses
mentally emotionally, as well as family dynamics. Often times, families blame themselves for a
loved one's alcohol dependence, which causes tension and puts strain on the interpersonal
relationships within the families. Children often times feel as though they are to blame, and when
they notice a parent drinking heavily and frequently, they often assume that they are the cause.
Children with an alcoholic parent are more susceptible to depression, anxiety, and alcohol abuse

Many immigrants come to the United States in pursuit of opportunity, however they struggle to
adopt the dominant culture's language, which limits the job opportunities available to them.
Historically, immigrants assimilated by having to learn dominant language, but this challenge led
them to create ethnic enclaves that make them feel more welcomed. Many enclaves in the United
States, for example the Latino population in San Francisco's Mission District, give a sense of
comfort and nostalgia of home because people from that community have similarities to their
homeland. Newcomers do not need to step out of their enclave because they have all the support
they need in their communities. Although many immigrants come to the United States in hope of
opportunity, they are limited to achieving and moving forward because of their ethnic enclaves.
Because these enclaves do not allow them to expand into different cultures, they are limited both
socially and economically.
Within ethnic communities, there are a huge number of people who face language barriers that
prevents them from seeking employment outside of their ethnic community. People within these
ethnic enclaves do not feel the need to learn the dominant language, because the majority of the
population with their community speaks the same language as they do. Places like San Francisco's
China town has established their own enclave that includes everything from grocery shops to

I have chosen to use TradeMe as my case. TradeMe is an online website that connects sellers to
buyers and also buyers to sellers. TradeMe is the middle man or connection between both parties.
The selling of goods or services works through an auction system instead of the classic, one price
and that is it. This system benefits both buyers and sellers, the buyer can get products for cheap and
sellers could also get a lot more than anticipated from their goods or services. TradeMe is a New
Zealand based website and has quickly became a very popular site, having over 3.9 million active
