The 4th European Conference on Social Media will take place July 3-4, 2017 in Vilnius, Lithuania. A mini track at the conference focuses on Big Social Data Analytics and will explore models, methods and tools that help organizations gain insights from social media. The mini track aims to address challenges such as privacy and ethical issues related to social media content analysis. Topics may include big data analytics, social media modeling and tools, security and privacy concerns, and cloud computing applications.

Mini Track on Big Social Data Analytics
Mini Track Chairs: Dr. Jari Jussila and Dr. Farid Shirazi
An expanding amount of social media content is generated every
day, yet organisations are facing increasing difficulties in both
collecting and analysing the content related to their operations. This
mini track on Big Social Data Analytics aims to explore the models,
methods and tools that help organisations in gaining actionable
insight from social media content and turning that to business or
other value. The mini track also welcomes papers addressing the Big
Social Data Analytics challenges, such as, security, privacy and ethical issues related to social media content.
The mini track is an important part of ECSM 2017 dealing with all aspects of social media and big data
analytics.
Topics may include but are not limited to:
 Big Data Analytics
 Big Social Data models and methods
 Big Social Data tools and case studies
 Big Social Data security, privacy and ethical issues
 Cloud Computing and Big Data
 M‐commerce cloud
Jari Jussila, B.Eng., M.Sc., D.Sc. is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Novi Research Center at
Tampere University of Technology, Tampere, Finland. He completed his doctoral thesis on
social media use in business‐to‐business companies’ innovation. His research is currently
focused on online communities, social media, crowdsourcing, as well as, big social data
analytics.
Farid Shirazi, B.Eng., MSc. Computer Security, Ph.D. is a Senior Researcher at Institute for
Innovation and Technology Management at Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada. He is
currently an Associate Director and an Associate Professor of the Ted Rogers school of
Information Technology Management. Farid’s research focuses mainly on the impact of
ICTs on the social and economic development. His main research interests are IT‐enabled
sustainability and development, Cloud Computing, E‐government strategies, Green IS
management as well as the ethical and security perspectives associated with the introduction and use of
ICTs.
