“Uber, the world's largest taxi company, owns no vehicles. Facebook, the
world's most popular media owner, creates no content. Alibaba, the most
valuable retailer, has no inventory. And Airbnb, the world's largest
accommodation provider, owns no real estate.”
Palo Alto-based Pirate3D Inc set out to bring affordable 3D Printing to the home and raised $1.4M of its $100,000 goal on Kickstarter, smashing all expectations. The Buccaneer is the first cloud-managed 3D Printer which makes it simple to download and share designs with other printer owners, and is designed to make printing at home simple enough that anyone can enjoy it with little fuss or technical knowledge required.
This isn’t everything in the 3D printing space, either, with other wildly successful projects like RoBo 3D, RigidBot 3D and Fabtotum among the top funded as well.
3Doodler, a 3D printing pen, works very similarly to a 3D printer but fits into your hand producing interesting results only limited by creativity. The device was extremely popular with those on Etsy, who saw it as a great opportunity to create one-of-a-kind art pieces for sale.
The company behind 3Doodler, Wobbleworks, raised a whopping $2.4M of a $30,000 goal making it the third most popular Kickstarter of all time. Shipping started earlier in the year and continues now, but you’re able to place a pre-order for estimated delivery in March 2014.

Layar Augmented Reality App https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZR4eSmmPCxg
Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality. By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one. Augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in semantic context with environmental elements, such as sports scores on TV during a match. With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulable. Artificial information about the environment and its objects can be overlaid on the real world.
IKEA's 2014 catalog aims to ease some of that angst by letting you plan ahead with its augmented reality feature.
Mobile app colAR takes traditional 2D coloring pages and then turns them into 3D models that literally jump off the page. Unlike any coloring experience you’ve had before, the app makes the things you color come to life with animation that seems to bring the otherwise generic drawings to life.
Using the German car company's newly updated eKurzinfo app (German for "short info"), you can aim your iPhone camera at various parts of your Audi car. The app then identifies the parts in augmented reality and offers relevant information for that particular part.
Currently available just to developers, the Oculus Rift headset immerses users in a 3D virtual reality environment for playing games and navigating through virtual worlds.
Last month, Facebook announced its intention to buy Oculus VR for $400 million in cash and 23.1 million in Facebook shares valued at $1.6 billion. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg trumpeted the deal as paving the way for a new type of social network.
"Mobile is the platform of today, and now we're also getting ready for the platforms of tomorrow," Zuckerberg said in a statement. "Oculus has the chance to create the most social platform ever, and change the way we work, play, and communicate."
