9. Do you like arts, music and poetry?
“Disciplines” that where very famous and
part of the rituals of the Olympic Games
2nd
If you like them, you are lucky…
10. Do you know what EKECHIRIA means?
And finally 3rd
I hope so..
11. Keep ancient Olympia, ancient
Olympic Games, arts, music,
poetry and EKECHIRIA in mind….
BECAUSE….
12. By combining these we're
going to talk about a place
called the Stoa of Echo inside
an UNESCO monument, the
Ancient Olympia !!!
LET’S START!
13. EKECHIRIA is an “idea” which
appeared in the very beginning of the
ancient Olympic Games in their
homeland Ancient Olympia.
A few words about
EKECHIRIA
14. EKECHIRIA advocated the idea
of the pause of any war or
battle when the Olympic Games
were held.
So we understand that this
important idea ensured peace
during the Games.
16. The Stoa of Echo was
located in the sacred site
of Altea and she
constituted Altea's
eastern limit, which
isolated the Stoa of Echo
from the Stadium.
The Stoa of Echo
17. It is also known as the
Poikile Stoa, which means
painted and colorful stoa,
because of the paintings
that consisted it.
Another name for the Stoa
In the antiquity there were many poetry
and music competitions.
19. When we entered the Archaeological
Museum of Olympia, we saw 2 Pediments.
Personally, I was fascinated by the
Pediment which depicts the fight of Lapiths
and Centaurs.
21. The battle between Lapiths
and Centaurs is a symbolism of
the violation of the Olympic
truce because centaurs broke
the peace condition that they
had with Lapiths
22.
23. The battle of Lapiths and Centaurs
symbolizes man's attempt to coexist
and interact with the gods and
supernatural beings, for example the
Centaurs. So this fabulous battle, like
many others, shows us its failure.
