This document discusses leveling production in a just-in-time (JIT) system. Leveling aims to satisfy customer demand by providing what customers want, when they want it, in the desired quantities. It has three components: volume, variety, and time. Leveling production involves grouping products into families and setting batch sizes as small as possible to balance the production schedule daily or weekly. The benefits of leveling include stable production, flexibility to respond to changes, and improved productivity and supply chain management.

HOW to define the right level ?
• What is your criteria for batches ?
→ Change over time ?
→ Criteria with direct labor impact ?
→ Replenishment criteria ?
→ Quality concerns ?
→ Packaging size

Why this training
Can you answer these questions:
• What is the purpose of leveling?
• What are the three components of leveled production?
• How do we level production?
• What are the benefits of leveling?
Editor's Notes
Heijunka involves 3 components . Level Volume means that we build the same amount each day. Level Variety refers to getting the “right mix” and building it as often as possible. This means as we improve changeovers we can decrease our lot size and build different varieties more often. Time Period Is the length of time that we will hold the same volume without adjusting for fluctuations. The amount of fluctuations in customer orders plays a major role in what the time period may be. Heijunka is achieved through planning or moving your high demand days to lower demand days. This is the only way to effectively plan manpower, material, and equipment! When we are truly level we can also provide a level build plan to our suppliers which helps them to maintain on time delivery and the quality of their products.
Comments for animator : - levels defined in the KAIZEN approach - Mainly Autoliv plants are level 3 or 4 - Adapt your level to the customer need and frequency of deliveries
Comments for animator : - each plant need to customize is batch size
Comments for animator : - Some production line are dedicated, so family notion may disappear - logistic criteria is to garantee the levelling of some supplier order
