• Introduction
 McDonald’s is the world's leading food service
retailer with more than 30,000 restaurants in 119
countries serving 47 million customers each day. It
is one of the world's most well-known and valuable
brands and holds a leading share in the globally
branded quick service restaurant segment of the
informal eating-out market in virtually every
country in which they do business.
McDonald’s India
• McDonald’s opened its doors in India in October
1996. They have restaurants in Mumbai, Delhi,
Pune, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Ludhiana, Jaipur,
Noida Faridabad, Doraha, Manesar and Gurgaon.
• McDonald’s in India is a 50-50 joint venture
partnership between McDonald’s Corporation
[USA] and two Indian businessmen. Amit Jatia’s
company Hardcastle Restaurants Pvt. Ltd. owns
and operates McDonald’s restaurants in Western
India
Frederick Winslow Taylor
(1856-1915)
The core ideas of scientific
management were
developed by Taylor in the
1880s and 1890s, and were
first published in his
monographs
A Piece Rate System(1895),
Shop Management (1903)
The Principles of
Scientific Management
(1911)
F. W. Taylor state that
 Environment lacked work standards, bred
inefficient workers and jobs were allocated to
people without matching the job to the worker’s
skill and ability.

 Taylor's impact has been so great because he
developed a concept of
 work design,
 work-measurement,
 production control and other functions, that
completely changed the nature of industry.

experiment for context-specific solutions
 Better planning and decision-making
 Improved democracy in workplace
 Improved physical working conditions for
employees.
 Increased opportunities for workers to acquire

Disadvantages of
Scientific Management
 Suitable for small organizations only; unsuitable in
big firms
 Managerial decisions may involve strictness and
stress for managers due to need for complete
control over the work place
 Influences feelings of pressure among workers
 May de-motivate workers
