CULTURAL CHANGE LEADING TO INCREASED FUNDING FOR ARTISTIC RESEARCH
Led by the Visual Arts Data Service, a Research Centre of the University for the Creative Arts, and
working collaboratively with four institutional partners: Glasgow School of Art; Goldsmiths, University
of London; University for the Creative Arts; and University of the Arts London; KAPTUR (October
2011 - March 2013) will discover, create and pilot a sectoral model of best practice in the
management of research data in the arts.

the Project Officers have made contact with a range of stakeholders to establish working
groups on managing research data: IT, Research Office, Researchers, Library, Freedom Of
Information Officers

All the Project Officers, and the Technical Manager, have now attended DCC Roadshows
the four-page DCC Research data policy briefing (PDF) document is being used as a
starting point for discussion for developing institutional policies; this is set in context in a DCC
blog post by Sarah Jones (December 2011)
BENEFITS FOR VISUAL ARTS RESEARCHERS:
the Environmental Assessment report has been written from the perspective of the visual arts
researcher and this will then lead into advocacy and (later on) training and support
positive feedback received from the visual arts researcher interviewees on the report, for
example, a Professor commented:
"[...] this is a very interesting document, clear, and valuable even. In its
methods as well as the material outcomes. Congratulations."
BENEFITS FOR THE INSTITUTIONS:
collaboration amongst the Project Officers has enriched the outcomes of the qualitative
research in the Environmental Assessment report and opened up discussion with researchers
the work of the Project Officers and the Technical Manager will improve awareness across
the institutions of areas such as Open Access which will enhance submissions to external
funders
