1. An Annual Event for the Private Schools
The Department of Education-Regional Office VII through the Quality Assurance and
Accountability Division (QAAD) spearheaded the conduct of 3rd
Private Schools in Basic
Education Conference held on July 8-11, 2013 at the Applied Nutrition Center, Banilad, Cebu
City. It was attended by the Schools Division Superintendents, Assistant Schools Division
Superintendents, Division Education Supervisors-in-Charge of Private Schools, Private School
Owners, Principals, Registrars and School Administrators from the (19) nineteen schools
divisions.
DepEd-Regional Memorandum No. 366, Series of 2013 stated the objectives of the
conference which are aimed to: advocate the implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education
Program; revisit the revised guidelines for private school operations; and maximize the
utilization of GASTPE, allocation and availment of ESC grantees for School Year 2013-2014.
The conference was organized by the Quality Assurance and Accountability Division led
by Chief Marcial P. Degamo and his QAAD Training Team: Mr. Sinfronio R. Thelmo, Dr. Estela B.
Susvilla, Dr. Joy Kenneth S. Biasong, Mrs. Merden L. Bryant Mrs. Antoniette Cabando, Mr.
Simon Bob Rios, Mrs. Rosa H. Cabotaje, Dr. Eduardo C. Bacaltos, Mrs. Marilyn Sinconiege and
Ms. Julisa Q. Buenconsejo.
QAAD Education Supervisors and Division Chiefs from the Regional Office were the
resource speakers of this activity. The conference dealt on topics such as the K to 12 Basic
Education Program and Standards-Based Assessment, GASTPE Utilization, International School
Operation, Foreign Students’ Policy, E-BEIS Profiling, Child Protection Policy, Technical
Assistance Framework, Capability Building/ Training Program of School Personnel,
Establishment of a New School or Course, Renewal of Government Permit, Granting of
Government Recognition, Application of Confirmation of Tuition Fees and Other School Fees,
Application to Conduct and Take Summer Classes, Issuance of Special Order for Graduation,
Overloading of Academic Subjects and other issues and concerns pertaining to private school
operations. Director Carmelita T. Dulangon of DepEd Region VII also gave her message to the
participants.
This annual event is essential for the private schools in order for them to acquire
relevant and current information on new DepEd guidelines and policies because they are
DepEd’s partners in achieving quest for excellence in basic education. (jksb)
