K to 12 TECHNOLOGY AND LIVELIHOOD EDUCATION HOME ECONOMICS – BEAUTY CARE (NAIL CARE) (Exploratory) *TWG on K to 12 Curriculum Guide – version January 31, 2012 1 Content Standard Performance Standard Learning Competencies Project/ Activities Assessment Duration LESSON 1: USE OF HANDTOOLS AND EQUIPMENT Demonstrate understanding of/on: • Preparing nail care tools and equipment • Identifying types and uses of tools • Discussing and demonstrating safe and unsafe conditions of tools 1. Tools and equipment are prepared based on salon procedure and policies. 2. Tools and equipment are identified and checked according to task requirements. LO1. Prepare the necessary tools and equipment for the specific nail care activity 1. Identification of different tools and equipment according to task requirement. • Written examination 3 hours • Using nail care tools and equipment • Implementing safety procedures in using tools and equipment • Using PPE 1. Tools and equipment are used according to task requirements. 2. Safety procedures in using tools and equipment are observed. 3. Sets of personal clothing equipment are used. 4. Malfunctions and unplanned or unusual events are reported to the supervisor. LO2. Use nail care tools and equipment . 1. Demonstration 2. Use of multimedia presentation during the discussion 3. Group activities • Written test 4 hours

Functional and non-functional tools and equipment are segregated and labeled according to classification. 2. Safety of tools and equipment is observed in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions 3. Conditions of PPE are checked in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions LO1. Check condition of tools and equipment. 1. Lecture-demonstration on the proper handling and care of tools and equipment by the teacher. 2. Practical application on the proper handling and care of tools through group activities • Oral questioning • Written test 4 hours • Identifying tools and equipment (according to use) • Performing preventive maintenance techniques and procedures • Implementing OHS workplace regulations 1. Nail care tools and equipment are identified. 2. Appropriate cleaning procedure of nail care tools and equipment are applied. 3. Tools are cleaned according to standard procedures. 4. Defective equipment and tools are inspected and replaced according to manufacturer’s specification. 5. Workplace is cleaned and kept in safe state in line with OHS regulations. LO2.Perform basic preventive and corrective maintenance. 1. Practical demonstration of proper procedures learned. • Oral and written test 3 hours
