Independence Day knowledge.
3. What is the Declaration of
Independence
a. It is a document signed by our
local governing body that was
done so to explain to the
British King that we were tired
of the British government
overstepping its bounds and
consistently overtaxing the
people.
b. The first rough draft was
written in the Green Dragon
Tavern over a mug of ale.
c. This was the same as the
Boston Tea Party

a. Revolution was declared
against the British
b. On July 4th, 1776 the

Brits was because they wanted to save their
land.

– Congressional Leader and Secretary of congress
• John Adams wrote to wife Abigail predicting July 2nd
would be a holiday.
d. Read aloud in the city on July 8th

e. Finally Signed Aug 2, 1776
f. Delivered to Great Britain that following
November
g. Why the 4th
•That was the day congress stopped hashing out
the draft that was submitted on the 2nd
•They agreed to the wording
•This date was on the newest revision that was
signed in august.
•Wasn’t a national holiday until 1870 (century
later)

1. Bunch of guys ticked off at
government
1. High taxes
2. Removal of liberties
3. Tyrannical rule
2. They declared war against the crown
and their independence
3. Later, in writing, they gave us our
rights to protect us from tyranny

1. Remember the traitors
1. Sick of tyranny
2. Sick of taxes
3. Sick of their rights being taken
4. Way handicapped in numbers
5. Decided to fight back the government for
rights
2. Teach this story to your family
In July
of 1776, leaders from
the Americans colonies
met
to declare we wanted
our independence!
They sent a written message
to the king,
asking for freedoms and the
right to rule themselves!
Several
American
leaders helped
write the
Declaration of
Independence,
like
John Adams
and Benjamin
Franklin…
But the
final job
was done
by
Thomas
Jefferson
of
Virginia.
Americans
wanted to
explain why
ruling
themselves
was
important.
This is why we celebrate the
4th of July and why we study
the Declaration
of Independence during
Celebrate Freedom Week!
Americans believed that they
should be treated equally…
We hold these truths
to be
self-evident,
that all men
are created equal …”
Americans believe we all have
rights to be free…
What are these
“rights”?
The right to “life, liberty,
and the pursuit of happiness.”
These basic rights are
unalienable-
this means that everyone
is born with them and
no one
can take them away.
“…that they are endowed by
their Creator with certain
unalienable Rights,
that among these are
Life, Liberty and the
pursuit of Happiness.”
And what is one of the most
important jobs
for our leaders ?
“…That to secure these
rights,
Governments are
instituted among Men,”
Americans also believe that
governments should protect
our freedoms (our rights.)
Americans believe
that we are the ones
who say what government
should do for us…
We have the POWER!
“…deriving their
just powers
from the
consent of the governed.”
Let’s recite the
Declaration of
Independence together!
“We hold these truths

  • 16. They sent a written message to the king, asking for freedoms and the right to rule themselves!
  • 17. Several American leaders helped write the Declaration of Independence, like John Adams and Benjamin Franklin…
  • 18. But the final job was done by Thomas Jefferson of Virginia.
  • 20. This is why we celebrate the 4th of July and why we study the Declaration of Independence during Celebrate Freedom Week!
