hitting my head against a brick wall to
really get it

3. Here’s some of my
long held beliefs + myths about grants

“the government is giving out free money”

5. MYTH # 2
“I’ve paid lots of tax. They owe me.”

6. MYTH # 3
“Someone will help me pay
my operational costs”

“They’re a muli-national with lots of money”

“My project is important + unique”

10. EVERYONE THINKS THEIR PROJECT IS IMPORTANT + UNIQUE.
WHY WOULD SOMEONE PAY TO RUN YOUR BUSINESS?
NO ONE OWES YOU ANYTHING.
THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS FREE MONEY.
A GRANT PROVIDER NEEDS A RETURN ON THEIR INVESTMENT….

385 requests

2 were accepted
WHY?

18.  Many were worthy causes, but had a poor fit
with the grant provider’s objectives
 They didn’t want to hear about someone else’s
project, they wanted to know how the project
fitted with their needs

BREAK YOUR PROJECT INTO PHASES WITH MEASURABLE
OUTCOMES, TIMING & BUDGETS.

SO WE THEN TARGETTED MULTI-CULTURAL, ITALIAN AND ARTS
FUNDING.
WE WERE MORE SUCCESSFUL FOCUSING IN THESE AREAS.
