Introduction
RF system has capability to accelerate the drying process and shorten production
time. RF drying offers High Volume, High speed and High quality drying which is
what exactly needed in textile industries. As wet garments of Acrylic, Cotton, Nylon
and Polyester blends pass through the drying chamber , the radio waves vibrates
the contained water molecules million times per second, vaporizing them.
Ventilator Fans are used to remove damp air from the Drying Chamber.
The dryer system comprises the 125kW industrial high frequency generator in
conjunction with a drying chamber incorporating an electrode applicator and air
extraction system. Many types of fibre can be dried. The machine incorporates a
modular polypropylene conveyor band and conveyor system.
RF drying has a leveling effect that practically eliminates any problems of uneven
shrinkage and over drying. The RF drying times depend on the type of fabric, the
percentage of moisture in the fabric going in to the dryer, and the degree of
dryness desired.
RF Heating
A wet product submitted to a
radio frequency field, absorbs the
electromagnetic energy, so that its
internal temperature increases. If
a sufficient amount of energy is
supplied, the water is converted
into steam, which leaves the
product; that is to say, the wet
product is dried.
Polarization of molecules
RF Heating Equipment
RF Technology
This technology is based on the peculiar characteristics of dielectric
(insulating) materials such as water. Water molecules are subjected to
polarization when put into an electric field, this polarization corresponds to a
deformation and re-orientation of the molecules in accordance to the field
itself. In an alternated (oscillating) electric field water molecules invert their
own polarization at each single inversion of the field. Furthermore, water
molecules invert their polarization at the same frequency of that of the field
they’re subjected to, dissipating energy due to their inter molecular friction.
This energy is said dielectric loss. Inter molecular friction generates heat
which increases water’s temperature, discharging steam in the environment.
The more frequent are the oscillations, the higher will be the energy
absorbed by the material; this is the reason why we use radio frequencies
able to allow at least 27 millions inversions per second.
Main Features
RF GENERATORS RF generators have been
designed and manufactured in order to
meet the specific requirements of the
textile industries and their humid and dusty
environments. The high quality factor (Q) of
RF generators (higher than that of
traditional generators with concentrated
components) ensures higher efficiency,
frequency stability (within norm limits) and
decreases the level of electromagnetic
interference. RF generators are water
cooled or air cooled, depending on both
their applications and the climatic
conditions of the working environment. The
available RF power range is set between 05
and 200kW per unit.
Main Features
ELECTRODES SYSTEMS it consists on a
series of parallel aluminium bars and/or
perforated flat plates which receive the
radio frequency from the oscillator and
transfer it to the load. The electrode is
mobile compared to the traditional systems
with fixed electrode, which allows more
drying flexibility and a higher efficiency in
transferring the optimal power to the
product to be dried. The regulation of the
power is obtained by varying the distance
between the two electrodes. For specific
applications, such as those where the
product to be dried presents fixed
dimensional characteristics (for example
stripes or fabric), fixed electrode is used.
Main Features
SMARTOUCH PANEL Through the
use of a PLC combined with
SmarTouch panel, one’ll be able to
manage the dryer automatically.
The device shall automatically set
up the optimal power, the speed
of the conveyor belt and the
distance between the electrodes,
ensuring the best control on the
final humidity, for a perfectly dried
product.
Main Features
POWER DENSITY The power density (RF power/electrode area) is an
important factor on RF dryers. It is important to set the best power density
for each product, in order to deliver the best possible final result and quality.
The range of power density (PD) of RF dryers for the textile industry is
divided in 3 categories:
Very low PD: PD<6kW/m2
Typical applications: acrylic yarns.
Low PD: 6kW/m2<PD<10kW/m2
Typical applications: wool yarn cops, most synthetic fibers.
Medium PD: 10kW/m2<PD<15kW/m2
Typical applications: viscose and cotton yarns.
Heating/Evaporation process
The heating/evaporation process carried out by means of a radio
frequency field is:
Endogenous: The thermal energy is not supplied to the wet product by
an external heat source, but rather it is generated directly throughout
its mass.
Selective: The electromagnetic energy is absorbed mainly by the
moisture and not by the product itself.
Controlled: The heating/evaporation rate is directly proportional to the
amount of electromagnetic energy supplied, and this energy can be
controlled precisely.

  • 4. Introduction RF system has capability to accelerate the drying process and shorten production time. RF drying offers High Volume, High speed and High quality drying which is what exactly needed in textile industries. As wet garments of Acrylic, Cotton, Nylon and Polyester blends pass through the drying chamber , the radio waves vibrates the contained water molecules million times per second, vaporizing them. Ventilator Fans are used to remove damp air from the Drying Chamber. The dryer system comprises the 125kW industrial high frequency generator in conjunction with a drying chamber incorporating an electrode applicator and air extraction system. Many types of fibre can be dried. The machine incorporates a modular polypropylene conveyor band and conveyor system. RF drying has a leveling effect that practically eliminates any problems of uneven shrinkage and over drying. The RF drying times depend on the type of fabric, the percentage of moisture in the fabric going in to the dryer, and the degree of dryness desired.

  • 6. RF Heating A wet product submitted to a radio frequency field, absorbs the electromagnetic energy, so that its internal temperature increases. If a sufficient amount of energy is supplied, the water is converted into steam, which leaves the product; that is to say, the wet product is dried.
  • 9. RF Technology This technology is based on the peculiar characteristics of dielectric (insulating) materials such as water. Water molecules are subjected to polarization when put into an electric field, this polarization corresponds to a deformation and re-orientation of the molecules in accordance to the field itself. In an alternated (oscillating) electric field water molecules invert their own polarization at each single inversion of the field. Furthermore, water molecules invert their polarization at the same frequency of that of the field they’re subjected to, dissipating energy due to their inter molecular friction. This energy is said dielectric loss. Inter molecular friction generates heat which increases water’s temperature, discharging steam in the environment. The more frequent are the oscillations, the higher will be the energy absorbed by the material; this is the reason why we use radio frequencies able to allow at least 27 millions inversions per second.
  • 10. Main Features RF GENERATORS RF generators have been designed and manufactured in order to meet the specific requirements of the textile industries and their humid and dusty environments. The high quality factor (Q) of RF generators (higher than that of traditional generators with concentrated components) ensures higher efficiency, frequency stability (within norm limits) and decreases the level of electromagnetic interference. RF generators are water cooled or air cooled, depending on both their applications and the climatic conditions of the working environment. The available RF power range is set between 05 and 200kW per unit.
  • 11. Main Features ELECTRODES SYSTEMS it consists on a series of parallel aluminium bars and/or perforated flat plates which receive the radio frequency from the oscillator and transfer it to the load. The electrode is mobile compared to the traditional systems with fixed electrode, which allows more drying flexibility and a higher efficiency in transferring the optimal power to the product to be dried. The regulation of the power is obtained by varying the distance between the two electrodes. For specific applications, such as those where the product to be dried presents fixed dimensional characteristics (for example stripes or fabric), fixed electrode is used.
  • 12. Main Features SMARTOUCH PANEL Through the use of a PLC combined with SmarTouch panel, one’ll be able to manage the dryer automatically. The device shall automatically set up the optimal power, the speed of the conveyor belt and the distance between the electrodes, ensuring the best control on the final humidity, for a perfectly dried product.
  • 13. Main Features POWER DENSITY The power density (RF power/electrode area) is an important factor on RF dryers. It is important to set the best power density for each product, in order to deliver the best possible final result and quality. The range of power density (PD) of RF dryers for the textile industry is divided in 3 categories: Very low PD: PD<6kW/m2 Typical applications: acrylic yarns. Low PD: 6kW/m2<PD<10kW/m2 Typical applications: wool yarn cops, most synthetic fibers. Medium PD: 10kW/m2<PD<15kW/m2 Typical applications: viscose and cotton yarns.
  • 14. Heating/Evaporation process The heating/evaporation process carried out by means of a radio frequency field is: Endogenous: The thermal energy is not supplied to the wet product by an external heat source, but rather it is generated directly throughout its mass. Selective: The electromagnetic energy is absorbed mainly by the moisture and not by the product itself. Controlled: The heating/evaporation rate is directly proportional to the amount of electromagnetic energy supplied, and this energy can be controlled precisely.
