Simon Bolivar was a leader of independence movements in Latin America in the early 19th century. He helped citizens gain independence in countries like Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela. The country of Bolivia was later named in his honor. He was able to end Spanish rule in South America and lived to see all the countries he fought for become independent. His nickname was "El Liberatador".
