This document summarizes 4 tools for analyzing different social media networks: Instagram Scraper for Instagram, Netvizz for Facebook, Google Search for searching online documents, and TCAT for Twitter. For each tool, it provides the website, how to use basic features like search or input terms, and what type of data output is produced that can be analyzed in spreadsheets or visualization tools. The goal is to extract relevant data from these social media sources for network analysis.

2. INSTAGRAM: INSTAGRAM SCRAPER
• The tool is available here: https://tools.digitalmethods.net/beta/instagram/#
• You need a clientID to use the tool (follow the instructions on the tool)
• Your input is hastags or geo-coordinates (from Google maps).
• The results are available via the output button in the top
• The csv includes links to pictures that you can open in Google Spreadsheets
• To download pictures from the csv use Firefox and 'downemall' https://addons.mozilla.org/en-
US/firefox/addon/downthemall/
• To take a folder of pictures and show them next to each other use Contact Sheet maker:

3. FACEBOOK: NETVIZZ
• The tool 'Netvizz' is an App that you add to your FB profile
• You can use the search function in Netvizz to find relevant pages and groups
• Your input is IDs from pages or OPEN groups + a date-range
• You get the ID of a page here: https://lookup-id.com/
• Your data comes as a zip-file with 1 gdf file and 3 tab-files.
• The tab-files can be opened in Google Spreadsheets

4. GOOGLE: SEARCH BOX
• The tool is the searchbox
• Use the search operators on the slides to get useful searches. Especially use intyp:pdf after your
searches to get PDF documents.
• Your data should be a list of PDFs that is organized in a folder.
• Down download many PDFs into a folder use Firefox and 'downemall' https://addons.mozilla.org/en-
US/firefox/addon/downthemall/
• Help each other and write on the discussion pages of Moodle if you are in trouble. Also - search for
video tutorials on the web!! There are plenty of them around.
5. TWITTER: TCAT
• Use TCAT to fetch data from FB - NB! I need to start the data-collection and Twitter only produces
data forward in time
• Decide on a list of words and #'s that are relevant to use as the basis for data collection
