2. BACKGROUND
Inland Water Transport (IWT) is an environment friendly
mode of transport.
It has a vast potential to act as an alternate and
supplementary mode of transportation under certain
conditions.
India has an extensive network of rivers, lakes and canals
which, upon development, can provide an efficient
network of inland transportation.
The current share of IWT in total inland transport is not
very significant.
‘INLAND WATERWAY AUTHORITY OF INDIA’ is the authority under Ministry
of Shipping, GOI.

Confluence of the river Ganga with river Son at port Doriganj.
Ballia and Buxar where the famous Battle Of Pallasey was fought in 1757.
Visit the memorial cemetery of East India Company.
Chausa and Gazipur still a centre for (official) opium production.
Visit the little town of Zamania(mysterious monolithic column)
