5. Case Study
For Senior Assembly, a student speaks on his personal
experience of being a conservative republican in the
school community. His call to action is for students like
himself to be true to who they are, for students not like
himself to think about and act on what it means to be
truly inclusive, and for the school to support all students
who do not feel a belonging in school. The assembly
creates quite a buzz in classes, hallways, etc. A week
later, a group of students approach administration about
the creation of a white male affinity group and a
conservative republican affinity group. Later in the
same week, students from the Students of Color Affinity
Group, Feminist Club, and LGBTQ Alliance Group
approach administration to express outrage at this idea
and implores the school not to create such groups.
