You feel proud of what you are belonging to. At this point I am sure that only a very few of you do your profession under the lights of ethics in software development. As in every professions, software development has a common set of ethical values, behaviors and rules. That might be the most forgotten and abandoned area in our profession and my main goal is to trespass it with this presentation. WordCamp US 2016 - Ryan Markel: Code Review

Code reviews have been conducted since decades in software projects, with the aim of improving code quality from many different points of view. During code reviews, developers are supported by checklists, coding standards and, possibly, by various kinds of static analysis tools. This paper investigates whether warnings highlighted by static analysis tools are taken care of during code reviews and, whether there are kinds of warnings that tend to be removed more than others. Results of a study conducted by mining the Gerrit repository of six Java open source projects indicate that the density of warnings only slightly vary after each review. The overall percentage of warnings removed during reviews is slightly higher than what previous studies found for the overall project evolution history. However, when looking (quantitatively and qualitatively) at specific categories of warnings, we found that during code reviews developers focus on certain kinds of problems. For such categories of warnings the removal percentage tend to be very high—often above 50% and sometimes 100%. Examples of those are warnings in the imports, regular expression, and type resolution categories. In conclusion, while a broad warning detection might produce way too many false positives, enforcing the removal of certain warnings prior to the patch submission could reduce the amount of effort provided during the code review process.

Peer code review is one of the most effective ways to find defects – but is it agile? Because agile teams loathe heavy process, code review practices can easily fail. However, lightweight peer code review aligns well with the central tenets of agile—keeping feedback close to the point of creation, increasing team velocity by finding defects faster, and improving collective code ownership through frequent collaboration. Gregg Sporar shares recent research on code review practices and describes an agile code review approach—how much time to spend, which code to review, how much code to review at a time, how to set goals, the value of annotation, and more. After comparing four styles of code review—pair programming, over-the-shoulder, email, and tool-assisted—Gregg gives specific advice for creating review checklists and dealing with the social effects of code review in an agile environment.

Over the years the cassandra.yaml file has grown to provide a number of settings that can improve stability and performance. While the file contains plenty of helpful comments, there is more to be said about the settings and when to change them. Müşteriler, kaçırılan tarihler ve çıktının düşük kalitesi nedeniyle hayal kırıklığına uğruyor. Her yazılım geliştirme ekibi kendi dinamiklerini yaratır. Çalışanların davranışlarıyla ekiplerin gizli dinamiklerini toplandığımızda şirketteki yazılım geliştirme kültürünü oluşturuyoruz. Bu, bir yazılım geliştirme takımının ne kadar başarılı olabileceğini tanımlayan, en önemli faktörlerden biridir. Bu oturumda, motivasyon, teknik mükemmellik, işbirliği, yardımlaşma, yenilikçilik ve başarı sağlayan bir yazılım geliştirme kültürünün nasıl kurulacağından bahsedeceğim. Git is one of the most powerful tool in developers' toolbox. If you use it correctly, it dramatically increases productivity of developers and eliminates the waste products continuously. Developers cultivate a development culture on top Git most of the time. It's powerful but its power is untamed. Many teams fall into several traps of misusing commands and therefore feel uncomfortable while using Git. We mess up Git history, the codebase and the whole preferred branching strategy in seconds. We use branches, merge/rebase strategies, creating commits in wrong ways. Even we never take committing paradigms into account while using Git. As a software craftsman, I've been using Git for years and I've already educated Git to hundreds of developers in all levels. I'm so lucky; I had a chance to experience huge amount of anti-patterns in time. In this talk, I will talk about what those anti-patterns are and what should we do in order not to fall into them.

Rule 1 − Check for the blocks connected in series and simplify. Rule 2 − Check for the blocks connected in parallel and simplify. Rule 3 − Check for the blocks connected in feedback loop and simplify. Rule 4 − If there is difficulty with take-off point while simplifying, shift it towards right. Rule 5 − If there is difficulty with summing point while simplifying, shift it towards left. Rule 6 − Repeat the above steps till you get the simplified form, i.e., single block.

The purpose of Integrated Test Rig is to assess performance of Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC), HP Pump & Oil Pump prior to fitment on Aero Engine. The design of rig is such that it can cater to individual testing of individual LRU or integrated testing of all the LRU’s installed together (in combination). The pumps under test shall be mounted directly on the high-speed electric motor flange through adapter quill shaft assembly. Variable speed drives shall be provided for all the pumps under testing. The rig shall cater for real time monitoring and recording of performance parameters. KEY FEATURES Key features of this Rig are as follows: - 1. It has separate power packs for both the fluids i.e. ATF Power pack for ATF Fluid, OX Power Pack for OX-27 Oil. 2. This Rig is designed for high temperature Application. It works on 200 deg. Celsius. 3. Two Dedicated heating systems have been integrated with this Rig to raise the temperature of OX-27 Oil. 4. In both Power Packs insulated tanks are being used, which is good for safe operation and safety of operator. 5. This rig is designed in such a way, that it’s OX power pack is in its left side, ATF Power pack is in right Side and test bed is in Centre. 6. A big Test bed have been provided for smooth testing of UUT’s. 7. All piping is being insulated for safe operation and maintenance. 8. It comprises with DAQ System. 9. This rig can test several components at a time, together or separately. Application All the UUT’s are mounted on HTFE-25 Engine after successful performance testing of those. Application of this Rig are as follows: - 1. One of its application is to test LP Pump of HTFE-25. It is designed for functional testing of LP Pump. a. Free Flow Test b. Load Test 2. It is used to test HP Pump of HTFE-25. It is designed for functional testing of HP Pump. a. Free Flow Test b. Load Test 3. It is used to test Oil Pump of HTFE-25. It is designed for functional testing of Oil Pump. 4. It is used to test FCOC of HTFE-25.
