To whom (i.e., what market segment) was the brand targeted? (Rui targets young generation with any different body types, she wants to make unisex fashion without emphasising gender. Versace targets the upper middle class) 2. Who actually used the brand/products? (Rui Zhou’s clients are the contemporary independent women with strong personality and confidence, mainly market is the Gen Z. Versace’s users are mainly 25-44 year old women, upper middle class, they are noble and seductive, they want to be sexy but inviolable.) 3. What was the primary competition? (Rui’s competitors are mainly the young designer brands, their designs are all face to the younger generation, https://www.lvmh.com/news-documents/news/semi-final-of-the-2021-lvmh-prize-for-young-fashion-designers-8th-edition/, includes those brands in this link who were competing with Rui for the LVMH prize. How was the brands marketed and extended (communication, stores, new products/segments) (Rui currently cooperate with many famous luxury collection store like Ssense and Common place, also they have their own website. Since its launch in 2019, the brand has shown thrice at NYFW and gained significant attention from the industry and on social media. The brand now has studios based in both New York and Shanghai, shipping to customers worldwide. Versace As of March 27, 2021, Capri Holdings operated 153 Versace retail stores worldwide. ARH2000 Art & Culture USF College of the Arts 1 Art & Identity Research Project 15 points / 15% of final grade Submit via the link provided in Canvas. OVERVIEW For this final project you will research two (2) contemporary artists who deal with the theme of identity. In addition, you will reflect upon and propose an imagined artwork that relates to your own concept of identity. (Do not worry if you are not artistically inclined, you are NOT expected to create an actual finished art piece; it is merely a proposal for something you imagine.). The final project will be presented as a well-researched PowerPoint presentation. Scholarly research and a Works Cited page/slide are important components of this project. HOW TO PREPARE 1. Engage with the presentation: “Art & Identity” 2. Read/review the following from the textbook: Chapter 4.9 (The Body in Art) and 4.10 (Identity, Race, & Gender in Art); pp. 189 (grey box); 357-359 ARTIST RESEARCH 1. Choose two (2) artists from the list on page three of these instructions. Research your chosen artists in relation to their interest in a theme of “Identity”. 2. You must use at least three different types of sources in your research project: The artwork itself will be one source – the most important primary source. Therefore, you must research and find at least two (2) other types of sources (interview with the artists, scholarly articles, books, museum website etc.) to use in your study. Most will need to exceed this minimum for a robust presentation. See page 189 of your textbook for a list of possible primary and secondary sources. Further resources on how to get started are found in the subheading “Resources” below. You can find many sources in the library or in one of the library’s databases. 3. Your selection of artists should be intentional and surround a specific sub-topic of identity. Your research should not focus on identity in only a broad and general way. Clearly identify the sub- topic that relates to your artists. For example, you may find artists that are similarly interested in any of the following sub-topics below: the fluidity of identity deconstructing cultural, social, or political difference feminist critique diversity or artists who create work that explores related cultures, groups, or societies You may consider choosing artists that work in the same medium (for example, performance art, painting, or installation) and how that material choice imparts meaning to their work. 4. After selecting your sub-topic and artists, you must decide on a title for your project. ARH2000 Art & Culture USF College of the Arts 2 5. Your research into the artists should include biographical information and an examination of the artists’ approaches. In a PowerPoint presentation of your research, include the following: a. Biographies of each artist: i. Image of the artist (photo, sketch, etc.) ii. Brief biography:.

STEP 1: VISIT > https://artsandculture.google.com/partner?hl=en . Browse through the partner museums and select one that has a "Museum View" or "Street View" (typically if you scroll to the bottom, it will appear above the map). It is important to make sure your selected museum has a "Museum View" or "Street View" of inside the galleries of the museum - not all do. Please confirm this before moving to step two. For example, the National Museum of Art in Washington DC doesn’t have a Museum View so you can’t pick it but MoMA or the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum does! Please also make sure to pick an art museum, as you’ll need to write about a work of art. So, sadly, no history museums like the Anne Frank House, NASA, or Smithsonian National History Museum. STEP 2: Select a work of art from your museum within the Museum/Street View or collections page. You’ll want to pick a work here so that you can analyze where it’s located, what’s next to it and what kind of frame it has. It will look like this or if you found it by looking through that museum’s collection, it will look like the second image. STEP 3: When you’ve found your artwork, click on the entry to learn more about your individual artwork. Spend some time clicking around the room it's in, seeing what’s next to it and what the architecture of the space is like. STEP 4: Time to answer some questions! QUESTIONS TO ANSWER IN YOUR REPORT Font & Spacing : 12pt, Times or Arial; Single or double-spaced is fine. Length : 1000 words (ok to go over). Style : Write in complete sentences and with college-level spelling and grammar. Answer each question in the next section with about 150-200 words of text in a paragraph (not bullet points). Underlining : Please underline any art or art history specific vocabulary. Format : You can format your paper either with headings for each question OR as an essay with paragraphs for each question. Sources : you need at least two sources (cannot include Wikipedia) and to include Works Cited that is correctly formatted in MLA style. You should also use in-text citations when referring to information that is taken from your sources. This lets the reader know what are your ideas and words vs. those that are from someone else. You’ll include citations if you paraphrase, directly quote, or refer to information and concepts that come from other people. Remember that what you list in your Works Cited page are sources that you actually cite in your report. This is not a bibliography so it's not sources that you used for research. The artwork alone and by itself is not considered a source. If there was an essay that accompanied it, then yes, you can list that as one of your sources. Visit and artwork information The name of the art museum Artist name, title (in italics ), date, and medium of your artwork (what your artwork is made from) The movement or time period your artwork is a part of. Example: Northern Renaissance, .
