Pokémon Go is an augmented reality mobile app, and the game has launched and grown at
phenomenal rates. Pokémon Go is already on more than twice as many phones as Tinder, has
twice the engagement rates of Snapchat and Instagram, and already has a higher percentage of
daily active users than Twitter.
Businesses with a physical location can stand to make real money leveraging this virtual game
that has hordes of people outside playing every day and night.

POKÉMON GO - LURES
If your business is a PokéStop, you can use something called a
"Lure" to attract more Pokémon for 30 minutes. It attracts users
playing the game to come to you, because of the opportunity to
catch more Pokémon. This in turn is intended to drive more
traffic and customers to your location for the next 30 minutes. A
user can see that a PokéStop has a Lure, because pink hearts
will be floating out of the PokéStop, making it visible to players.
POKÉMON GO - POKÉSTOPS
How do you know if your business is a PokéStop?
A PokéStop is only determined by the game. Unfortunately, if
your location is not a PokéStop there is no way to purchase and
place a Lure.
While currently there is no list of PokéStops, you can determine
if you are a PokéStop by opening the game and looking to see if
your location shows up on the map with a diamond and Poke
Ball symbol. Click on the nearby PokéStops, and it will show the
businesses or landmarks in the circle that the game has
identified as PokéStops.
POKÉMON GO – HOW TO BUY LURES
If your location is indeed a PokéStop, you can begin the process
of buying and placing Lures. For $.99, you can purchase a Lure
Module to attach to your PokéStop for 30 minutes.
The first step in purchasing a Lure is clicking on the PokéBall at
the bottom of your screen.
Next, click shop.
POKÉMON GO – HOW TO BUY LURES
When you are in the shop, you will first have to purchase coins
in order to buy the Lure.
1 Lure Module is 100 PokéCoins. A bundle of 100 PokéCoins is
$0.99. You also have the option of purchasing a larger amount
of PokéCoins, and packages of 8 Lure Modules.
POKÉMON GO – HOW TO BUY LURES
Once you have purchased your PokéCoins, go back into the shop
and buy a Lure Module.
POKÉMON GO – HOW TO PLACE LURES
Now that you have purchased your Lure Module, close out of
the shop and go back to the main screen.
Click on your location’s Pokéstop. You will then see the empty
Lure Module slot. Click on the slot, and then click on the Lure.

You’ll know your Lure is in effect when you see the pink Lure in
the Lure Module slot, and pink hearts coming out of your
PokéStop. This Lure will go into effect for 30 minutes.
POKÉMON GO – LURE BEST PRACTICES
Having a Lure at your location is not only a great way to increase business, but it also opens up new
opportunities for customer engagement and unique promotions.
For example, there are three main "teams" that people compete from in Pokémon Go: Instinct
(Yellow), Mystic (Blue) and Valor (Red). Creating offers for certain color teams during various times of
the month will certainly garner attention (and more interaction!) from your customers.
Your offer could also have nothing to do with the game. It could be something as simple as a BOGO,
or buy a snack and get a free lemonade.
Make sure to promote your PokéStop on social media! Use geo-targeted ads to alert people in your
area, that your Lure is active or that your PokéStop has special offers! This way you are targeting
players on their phones, already on the go, likely to make a purchase.
