Canary Wharf in Docklands was the venue
for the London Ice Sculpting Festival where
men and women armed with chainsaws
crafted designs from giant blocks of ice

Mostly drawing indoors from the
warmth of cafes but I did brave the
cold to make this sketch of the Royal
Opera House as preparations for the
BAFTAs were in full swing.
People hanging around outside
Somerset House for London
Fashion Week also were great
material for sketching.

As the temperature
warmed up, a chance to
do some watercolours
in the Horniman
Gardens in south east
London and by the side
of the Thames, the day
before the London
Marathon.

Whilst the crowds flock to the Chelsea Flower Show, a more modest garden, the
first ‘Edible Bus Stop’ is officially opened in Stockwell. Meanwhile further south,
nearly 200 cyclists prepare for the annual ‘Tour de Penge’ ride to Greenwich and
back.

I drew the area known as the ‘Undercroft’ on the South Bank just next to the Festival Hall as the
skateboarders mounted a campaign to keep the space from redevelopment.
In Trafalgar Square, groups of Hare Krishna followers celebrated with friends and family.

Lots of local festivals at this time of
year including ones in Crystal Palace
and Sydenham. I drew two venues –
the Gypsy Hill Tavern and Sydenham
Community Library.

The hordes of Press gathered
outside St Mary’s Hospital awaiting
the Royal birth provide a great
drawing opportunity.

The good weather meant time to
get out and sketch some of the wellknown landmarks in London
including the new sculpture on the
fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square.

Another chance to draw
somewhere in the news this time the Ecuadorian
Embassy, temporary
home to Julian Assange of
Wikileaks fame.
The long summer
shadows in the local park
in south east London.

The Vintage Car Boot Sale on the
South Bank provided a great
opportunity to sketch some old
cars.

More vehicles on the South Bank,
where food trucks parked amongst
the market stalls made good
subjects.
