right skills
• Customize every resume you submit to feature
the key skills for that position.
• Apply for your dream job even if you don’t

company?
• What problem do you solve?

your skill set and knowledge base.
• Read, read, read!
• Don’t be afraid to communicate to employers
that you would like to attend industry events
and receive additional training.
• Employers SHOULD appreciate employees
that want to learn.

2) Do what others can’t or won’t do

• Learn peripheral skills, so
you can do it yourself and
not rely on others.
• Be the person that takes on
ANY task, especially the
ones nobody else wants.
• Be the lynchpin – the person
they can’t live without.

3) DON’T avoid conflict
• Express frustration, concern or any
negative feelings about the job directly,
clearly and as early as possible.
• Don’t simply avoid conflict.

4) Ask for what your worth
• Business owners constantly have their eye on
the bottom line.
• Nobody is going to GIFT you with a raise.
• Arm yourself with industry salary information
and have the confidence to get your financial
needs met.
• Negotiate your salary up front and ask for a 3
month or 6 month review BEFORE getting
hired to ensure you have the opportunity to
review compensation.
