I would like to thank the organizers of the conference and the panel for this opportunity to share with you my view about the research challenges in cloud infrastructures In this very short presentation I present the key differentiators of RESERVOIR compared to Amazon EC2, its research challenges in cloud infrastructures and a list of topics for further research in cloud infrastructures

The left part of this slide shows the three level architecture in RESERVOIR Form top down we have, the service management layer… These are the three main layer and research activities In this architecture, the cloud infrastructure layer is the … , the aim of the VEE Manager is to offer execution of groups of VMs as a service, and so it is the only part in the RESERVOIR architecture that can be compared with Amazon EC2 The other two layers, …, represent extra research out of the scope of an infrastructure provider, like EC2 So if we concentrate on this layer… The service manager will submit, control and monitor VEEs using the VEE Manager Interface The same public interface will be used for the federation of cloud or infrastructure sites The VEE manager will manage the VEE life-cycle within each host or physical resource by using the VEE Host interface VMI provides abstraction from a multi-host multi-site environment VHI provides abstraction from the virtualization technology
