2. WRITING. A REPORT
Reports are usually written for a person in authority
(e.g. a techaer, manager…).
They contain some description and often include
our suggestions or recommendations for future
action.
3. STRUCTURE
Information is presented in separate sections.
Each section has an appropriate heding to help the reader identify the content.
INTRODUCTION
The first paragraph is usually a short section entitled
Purpose or Introduction.
It is important that we mention the reason for writing
and pepare the reader for the information that we will
include in the main body
4. MAIN BODY
The main body is divided into sections, each of
which starts with a heading. E.g. The current
building; Classes; Timetable.
CONCLUSION
Usually the last section.
It is used to:
-Summarise the points in the main body.
-Make a suggestion or recommendation
- Offer a personal opinion
5. STYLE
Semi-informal or semi-formal, depending on the
person who demands the report. It is safer to opt for a
a semi-formal style.
No contractions
The headings are short and descriptive
We should link our ideas with appropriate linking
words and phrases.
We use short sentences to make the information easy
to understand. That does not mean that our style will
be plain. We should use resources adequate to an
advanced level. E.g. More formal structures such as
passive are welcome, yet we do not usually use
inversions since they might sound too formal.
