2. What is a
Vision
Board?
A vision board is a visual
depiction of your goals or
dreams, consisting of a collage of
images and/or words that are
attached to a poster board or
other surface and which you
meditate on daily to
speed manifestation of your goals
and dreams.
4. Process
There is no "right" way
to create a vision
board. For instance,
you might assign a
theme to each corner
of the board like
Health, Job, Spirituality,
Relationships. Or, it
maybe the images
want to go all over the
place. Or, you might
want to fold the board
into a book that tells a
story.
5. The “I Know Exactly What I
Want” Vision Board
Do this vision board if:
You’re very clear about your desires You want to change
your environment or surroundings, or if there is a specific
thing you want to manifest in your life. (i.e. a new home, or
starting a business.)
With your clear desire in mind, set out looking for pictures in
magazines that portray your vision. Find images that capture
that idea for you. For example, if you want to learn guitar,
then find pictures of guitars, music, people playing
guitars…anything that relates to that vision. Create your
vision board out of these images.
6. The “Opening and Allowing”
Vision Board
Do this vision board if:
You’re not sure what exactly you
want. For example, if you’ve been
in a period of depression or grief or
If you have a vision of what you
want, but are uncertain about it in
some way, or if you know you want
change but don’t know how.
7. The “Opening and Allowing”
Vision Board (cont.)
How to create this vision board:
Go through each magazine. Tear out images that delight you.
Don’t ask why. Just have fun and be open to whatever calls to you.
Then, as you paste the photos onto your board, ask yourself what
each picture might mean? What is it telling you about you? Does it
mean you need to take more naps, or you want to get a dog, or
stop hanging out with a particular person?
Most likely you’ll know the answer. If you don’t, but you still love the
image, then put it on your vision board anyway. It will have an
answer for you soon enough. You might have NO idea what the
board is about, but it will reveal itself to you in time. The Opening
and Allowing Vision Board can be a powerful guide for you.
Sometimes our egos think it knows what we want, but often those
desires aren’t in alignment with who we really are. This process
allows you to go deeper. It can speak to you and teach you a little
bit about yourself and your passion.
8. The “Theme” Vision Board
Do this vision board if:
- It’s your birthday or New Years or
some significant event that starts
a new cycle, or if you are working
with one particular area of your
life; for instance, Work & Career.
This Vision Board has clear
parameters and intent. Before
you begin, take a moment to
hold the intention and the theme
in mind. When you choose
pictures, they will be in alignment
with the theme. You can do the
Theme Vision Board on smaller
pages, and bind them together to
create a journal.
9. Some things to remember
about vision boards
You can use a combination of all three types of
vision boards if you prefer. You might start out
doing one kind, and then your intuition takes over
and shifts into a whole different mode. That’s
called creativity. Just roll with it.
Your vision board might change as you are
making it. That's ok too!
10. Vision Journal
Another option is to use these same principles in
a big sketch book. Get a large sketch book and
keep an on-going vision journal. This is effective
for anyone, especially if you’re going through
many transitions in your life.
11. Meditation
Before beginning to work on your vision board, find a quiet
place to do the following meditation exercise.
Get comfortable. Feet on floor, back straight, hands on
knees palms up. Deep breath in, slow breath out.
Imagine a ball of light right above your head. Imagine it’s
warm and positive energy coming down through your
head, through your body, down to your feet. Think about
what you desire in your life. You have complete control
over your thoughts and desires. Breath in the power and
strength, breath out doubt, worry, negative thoughts.
Envision what you want in your life. Is it more joy, laughter,
peace, love? Is it something more specific? How does it
feel to have what you desire? Feel yourself there. You are
the co-creator of your life. Breath in power, energy,
courage, trust, joy and gratitude. Breath out doubt,
resentment, fear.
12. Meditation (cont.)
See yourself surrounded by loving,
supportive people. How does that feel?
You have the power to create what
you want and need in your life.
Embrace that power. How does it feel
to be strong and in control of your own
destiny? Breath in beauty, community,
balance.
Breath out pain, loss, grief.
Feel this new energy in your body.
When you are ready, wiggle your
fingers, toes…slowly open your eyes.
You are now ready to create your vision
board.
13. In Closing
Creating a Vision Board can be a powerful, life-
changing experience. But, don’t let that stop you
from making more! I work on a new vision board
a few times a year. New Years, my birthday, and
in the fall. Each time, I discover new things about
myself and about what I am drawn towards.
I encourage you to place your vision board
someplace where you can view if every day, to
remind you about your dreams, inspirations, and
what brings you joy.
