Research into short film review articles in magazines
1. Research Into Short Film Review Articles In Magazines
2. As I am not a regular consumer of film magazines I know that researching into the layout and graphology of existing professional ones is important, so that I am able to create a realistic and convincing short film review page (from a magazine) for my short film.
3. However, before choosing what film to go watch at the cinema with friends and family I (more often than not) choose to read some online reviews about potential options. This has given me previous knowledge about the style of writing used when writing film reviews that I can apply to my own product, when I come to create it.
4. I will be looking at three feature length film review pages from magazines. Even though my own production will be written about my SHORT film, the same layouts are used for any type of motion picture so these examples are still relevant for my research.
5. Big bold main heading for title of the film Large main picture of a scene from the movie, which dominates the article Review text smaller than headings, as seen in any magazine article Smaller images of scenes from the film, giving the viewer an enticing insight into the film Black, white and red colours are used, all being stereotypical magazine article colours, making it look professional and recognisable to the consumer
6. Big bold main heading for title of the film Large main picture of a scene from the movie, which dominates the article Black, white and red colours are used, all being stereotypical magazine article colours, making it look professional and recognisable to the consumer Small advertisements of films have been placed on the page also, through a single image and a short piece of text about the film A graph, giving a sense of intellectual analysis of the film
7. Big bold main heading for title of the film Large main picture of a scene from the movie, which dominates the article. However this particular shot shows actual on set filming of one scene from within the film, giving the reader the feeling of having an ‘inside view’ on the film. hey may also feel that many others will not have the same opportunity of this Challenging stereotypical colours used in a magazine article (red, white and black) and using black and different shades of blue instead to give it its own sense of style and unique selling/ attracting point Smaller image of scenes from the film, giving the viewer an enticing insight into the film There is a lot more text in this film review article compared to the other two.
8. It is important to note that the three examples I used were film reviews that were presented across a double page spread due to them being about, popular, feature length films. My film review page will only be across one page due to having a smaller target audience (than a feature length film) so will most likely have less text and smaller/less images on the single page.
