- The teacher poses a topic-based question: Have you ever
experienced a setback? And makes sure learners understand
the concept of setback.
- Students read a brief paragraph about two friends who are going
to the movies.
- Teacher encourages students to watch a two-scene situational
video clip: “A date with Sarah” and have the opportunity to get
input through observation.
- The teacher checks learners’ comprehension by asking them
questions about the video clip.

-The teacher explores students’ previous knowledge about Modal

language functions when using Modal Verbs.
- Students practice the two-scene dialogues in front of the class as
the teacher monitors their oral skills development (pronunciation,
intonation…)

- The teacher sets the task and makes students work in groups.
- Learners complete the script of the video clip using modal verbs.
- Then, they take phrases from the conversation to convey
language functions.
- Students present their phrases orally.

- The teacher sets the task and provides students with a range of
communicative situation so that they can use language functions
in a role-play.
- Students make a dialogue between two characters and use

FACULTAD DE BELLAS ARTES Y HUMANIDADES LICENCIATURA EN LENGUA INGLESA MICRO TEACHING LESSON PLAN COURSE English Conversation II TEACHER/FACILITATOR Luis Carlos Lasso Montenegro AIM OF THE LESSON The goal of the lesson is aimed to develop oral skills by getting students practicing functional language in a real communicative situation. CLASS DESCRIPTION Intermediate English Learners Language Proficiency Level: B1 DATE May 21 st 2014 LESSON TOPIC Experiencing Setbacks SPEAKING ACTIVITY Dialogues SKILL DEVELOPMENT AT THE DISCOURSE LEVEL Macro skill of oral communication: Accomplish appropriate communicative functions according to situations, participants and goals. LEARNING RESOURCES - Video Clip: “A date with Sarah” - Power Point Presentation: Modal Verbs “MENTEFACTO” - Printed material: task sheet. - Web 2.0 tools: Dvolver Movie Maker ESTIMATED TIME OF LESSON 30 minutes TASKS PROCESS FOR LEARNERS TEACHING & LEARNING PROCEDURES COMPREHENSION TASK (Pre-task) RECEIVING INPUT THROUGH OBSERVATION - The teacher poses a topic-based question: Have you ever experienced a setback? And makes sure learners understand the concept of setback. - Students read a brief paragraph about two friends who are going to the movies. - Teacher encourages students to watch a two-scene situational video clip: “A date with Sarah” and have the opportunity to get input through observation. - The teacher checks learners’ comprehension by asking them questions about the video clip. LANGUAGEFOCUSTASK (Analysis–Practice) EXPLORING PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE & DEVELOPING IMITATIVE SEPEAKING -The teacher explores students’ previous knowledge about Modal Verbs and highlights characteristics through a MENTEFACTO. - The teacher sets a task to get students become aware of language functions when using Modal Verbs. - Students practice the two-scene dialogues in front of the class as the teacher monitors their oral skills development (pronunciation, intonation…) WORKING COLLABORATIVELY - The teacher sets the task and makes students work in groups. - Learners complete the script of the video clip using modal verbs. - Then, they take phrases from the conversation to convey language functions. - Students present their phrases orally. COMMUNICATIVE TASK (Role-play) DEVELOPING INTERPERSONAL DIALOGUE - The teacher sets the task and provides students with a range of communicative situation so that they can use language functions in a role-play. - Students make a dialogue between two characters and use different Modal Verbs for the assigned language functions. - Students act out the dialogue in front of the class.
