This dialogue summarizes an interview between a student named Juana and the author Michael Morpurgo about his book War Horse. Juana asks Morpurgo questions like why he chose to narrate the story from the perspective of a horse instead of a man, and how making a movie adaptation helped promote the book. Morpurgo explains that horses suffered in war just like soldiers, and telling the story from a horse's viewpoint allowed him to show multiple perspectives of war. Me: ​Hello everybody, today we are with​ the author of War Horse, Michael Morpurgo, hello
Michael!
MM: ​Hello Juana! How are you?
Me: ​Fine and you?
MM: ​Fine, thanks!
Me: ​C​an I ask you some questions please?
MM: ​Of course you can!
Me: ​Thank you! I want to know why you chose a horse to be the one who narrates the story
and not a man.
MM: ​Well, people were not the only ones that have suffered during the war, you know,
horses have suffered too.
Me: ​You are right.
MM: ​They died from exactly the same causes than a man has died from.
Me: ​But, if people suffered the same as horses did, why would have you preferred a horse to
tell the story than a man?
MM: ​Excellent question! There are many stories written about war, and almost all of them
had only one perspective of it, because they only saw one side of the war or another, but
never both.

Me: ​And what did you want?
MM: ​In my case, I didn’t want to write a story about the British or German or Canadian or
French’s point of view. I wanted to write a story about all points of view.
Me: ​How can you do that?
MM: ​Well, I could take a horse to the war, and let him tell the story.
Me: ​That is a wonderful idea Michael! But I have another question. What thing did you do to
make people read “War Horse”, your book?
MM: ​People saw the movie, they liked it, so they wanted to read my book.
Me: ​Ok, and, what would you say about this book, if you were not the writer?
MM: ​I would like the story, and I would meet the author of the book to talk with him, like you
are doing in this moment.
Me: ​ha­ha, What thing would you say to that author?
MM: ​Well, I must tell him that “War Horse” is my wife’s favorite book.
Me: ​Really?
MM: ​Yes!
Me: ​Anything more?
MM: ​Yep, apparently my wife has really good taste in books and in men too.
Me: ​Hahaha, Michael that is so funny
MM: ​Hahaha
Me: ​Well, we don’t have more time to talk, but I will visit you next week, OK?
MM: ​Perfect!, see you later, bye bye!
