Andreas Gursky
This is a photographic print that
I found when looking around the
Tate, Liverpool.
It is a photograph of a trading
floor which was intended to
draw attention to the business
of working in the global financial
market. Gursky did this by taking
several photographs of the work
place then he used the double
exposure technique to
emphasise the sense of
movement.

4. I could represent my different views of the city by using double exposure techniques to
show how different peoples lifestyles in the city are.
E.G
-student- location- Parkinson steps
-homeless- nobody else around OR homeless person with lots of people around, just
walking past.

5. This is a series of photographs to
show the process of constructing
a metal sculpture of a city skyline.
I was intrigued by this work
because of the silhouette effect
that has been created by having
high contrasting, black and white
photographs.
I am interested in producing
silhouette photography
techniques to maybe disguise the
individuals so it’s up to the
audience to interprete the
meaning.

6. After finding Collins’ work at
the Tate, Liverpool I
researched his work to find
that he mainly works to
explore political, social and
cultural issues with his
photography.
Phil Collins - photojournalist
Collins has taken a very
intimate approach to
photojournalism by having
a closely cropped image of
the face.
I would like to do something
like this however it may
prove difficult because of
shooting such intimate
photography would take a lot
of trial and error to get the
correct feel.

7. Bruce Davidson
Davidson is a documentary photographer. I discovered his work also at the Tate, Liverpool. He focus’s on
urban environments so I think that he will be great inspiration for my project when trying to represent
the homelessness, elderly and students. I think this style of photography would represent loneliness
well.

8. I would like to create a short film to show the
different representations of people from the
city.
Contrast between the types such as:
• Homeless/elderly (representing loneliness)
black and white /sepia tones.
• Students/families (representing a sense of
community) colourful, pleasant non-diegetic
music.

9. For my task for week two, I recorded a sound recording in
Leeds Train station. I chose to do the recording at 11:30 pm on
a Saturday night because there’s a huge variety of people in
the station at this time.
-Drunk teenagers;
-Middle class couples
Due to the variety of people, I can communicate the
differences between them. I would like to take this idea
further however, overlay the sound recording over my short
film as non-diegetic music.

10. Photographic Film
Short film using variation in colour and
non-diegetic sound recording which
will be over-layed and used to represent
the varieties of people living in the city
and the challenges they face.
I have been inspired by Davidson and
Gurksy and I would like to take
documentary photography and
then use double exposure
techniques to express how busy the
different types of peoples lives are.
I plan to use a variation of colour within my
photography to show the difference between the
types of people and their views on the city.
