2. Now that Windows 10 is available,
we've put together this guide to
upgrade your PC to Windows 10.
3. Decide on the Right Time
to Upgrade
Consider waiting a few weeks, or even months,
before upgrading to Windows 10.
Why? You can't always be sure if the applications you
use will work seamlessly with a new operating system.
By waiting a few weeks, it’ll ensure that the software
development companies you rely on have had time to
work out any unexpected bugs and release them to
the public.
4. Finish that Project First
If you're in the middle of an important project, you're
better off upgrading your operating system and any
app updates AFTER your project is completed.
Windows 10 will still be available after July 29, 2015.
Your project deadline may not.29
5. Backup, Backup, Backup
On any normal day, you should have a solid
backup plan in place.
Upgrading your operating system may be the single most
risky thing you can intentionally do to your computer–so it
behooves you to have a recent backup of your entire hard
drive before hitting that upgrade button.
6. Before you upgrade to Windows 10,

for information on how to create a backup.
9. Download ‘Get Windows 10’ App
Microsoft created an app that lets you pre-order
your free Windows 10 upgrade.
Place your free pre-order to ensure the Windows
10 upgrade app is ready to install anytime after
July 29.
10. Install your Updates
Before Microsoft will let you download the
‘Get Windows 10’ app, they require that all (and
we mean ALL) of your Windows 7 or Windows 8
updates have been installed.
If this is something you've been neglecting,
you'll need to set aside a good chunk of time
to get these updates installed.
11. Genuine Windows Required
Make sure you're running a genuine, activated
version of Windows.
Your copy of Windows must be registered with a
legitimate product ID.
12. • Windows Enterprise Edition
• Virtual Machine in VMWare
• Boot Camp on a Mac computer
• Microsoft Surface Pro 3
Not Seeing the ‘Get Windows 10’ App?
In our testing, not all Windows configurations will
see the ‘Get Windows 10’ app even though you've
installed all the updates.
Some configurations where you may not see the
app include:!
